Driller’s Helper Job Description – The driller’s helper assists the drill operator in the drilling operations including:
Assists with moving the drill from one setup to another
Assists with setting up the drill
Handles augers, drill rods, and core barrels
Mixes drill mud and grout
Handles soil and rock samples
Shovels drill cuttings
Assists with equipment lubrication, maintenance and repairs
Maintains water supply
Refuels drill
Hauls drilling supplies and equipment
Uses tools, equipment and machinery including pickups, water trucks, forklifts, pipe wrenches and other safety equipment
Physical demands on a driller’s helper while performing his duties include:
Standing, bending and twisting, use of hands and fingers, and reaching above the shoulder with hands and arms
Occasionally required to climb, balance, kneel, crouch, walk and sit
Routine use of hands and wrists
Walking on uneven surface or in muddy, slippery conditions
Frequent (3 to 6 times per hour) lifting and/or moving of 40 to 70 pounds and occasionally, with help, lifting and/or moving up to 100 pounds
Drill Operator Job Description – The drill operator sets up and operates the drill to obtain soil and rock samples. He manages the drill and decides upon and attaches drill bits and drill rods with the assistance of his driller’s helper. Drill operator activities include:
Movement and/or or directing the movement of the drill from one setup to another
Set-up or directing the set-up of the drill including stabilization and extending derrick
Operating drill controls (i.e., levers and buttons) to start the drill, control drilling speed, and adding drilling and sampling tools for the advancement of the borehole
Extracting, handling and labeling soil and rock samples obtained
Recording drilling progress, subsurface strata penetrated, and sampling results
Directing and participating in equipment lubrication, maintenance and repairs
Using tools, equipment and machinery including pickups, water trucks, forklifts, pipe wrenches and other safety equipment
Physical demands on a drill operator while performing his duties include:
Maintaining precise control of objects and devices through a range of movements and coordinating both hands in a single activity
Standing, bending and twisting, use of hands and fingers, and reaching above the shoulder with hands and arms
Occasionally required to climb, balance, kneel, crouch, walk and sit
Routine use of hands and wrists
Use of fingers for writing
Walking on uneven surfaces or in muddy, slippery conditions
Occasionally assisting the driller’s helper in lifting and/or moving up to 100 pounds
Applicants must have active TN driver's license and clean driving records in order to apply. Those with CDL license will be considered more favorably. Applicants will be required to submit to drug testing. Travel is required sometimes for extended periods of time.
