No prior experience necessary, I train everyone from square one.
I am a female. I tend to hire male caretakers. They tend to be stronger, quieter, and more willing to work nights. Women may also apply.
I have been disabled since I was born. My diagnosis is spinal muscular atrophy.
4 six-hour shifts a week probably including Saturday and Sunday nights, But the schedule is flexible. We can talk about it.
I am very driven with a lot of interests and aspirations. I know how to do a lot of different things, and I like learning how to do new things. I don't really like for things to be done FOR me, I like having someone who can help me with the parts that I cant do (even if that's most of it), without feeling excluded excluded or separate from the process.
Required tasks MAY include: direct transfers lifting me: 60lbs), personal care (including learning to administer tube feedings and catheterization) and hygiene (learning to help with bathing, hair, and makeup (I'll teach you), with my direction) depending on comfort level and compensation.
Required tasks WILL include things like: cleaning, organizing, and setting up/assisting with art supplies (which may include things like blow torches and tattoo needles) sewing, decorating, laundry and gardening. Maybe building some stuff. Here and there. Also paperwork and phone calls on my behalf with my guidance/supervision. Must have a valid driver's license in order to assist with community engagement (art shows, concerts, etc.)
I also have two small dogs and some aquarium critters that you will need to help care for.
I need someone who can stay motivated very well, and be as interested in my projects as I am. Focus, patience, and a consistently positive attitude are essential to this job.
If we get along, you may be able to live here, (internet, power, water paid. Plus video games. And sometimes food) in exchange for hoursrs or some type of agreed upon responsibilities.
Men often tend to do well in this position because of their tendency to have better upper body strength and their height/strength in general. Women are usually do better with the more creative and emotionally intuitive aspects of the job. Plus hair and make up ;) It is also a position that younger people tend to do well at because of my own fairly young age as well as the more casual relaxed atmosphere.
It is a challenging job, both mentally and physically, but you do end up with a lot of downtime for your own projects or homework, etc.
about 24hrs/week at first. Possibly more later depending on availability.
