SummaryAbout the Position: This is a permanent position located with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Memphis District, Operations Division, Revetment Section, Memphis, TN.ResponsibilitiesPerform the full range of maintenance, repair and installation services in connection with industrial, electronic, electrical-electronic electro-hydraulic and electro-mechanical controls as contained on various equipment and systems.Answer trouble calls and checks circuits, wiring, transistors etc. and locates and diagnoses malfunctions. Corrects trouble by replacing or repairing defective parts and components.Alternate and direct current power and lighting circuits; AC circuits from 120 volts to 600 volts both 3 phases and single phase; AC motors from 1/4 HP to 200 HP; DC motors from 1/4 HP to 250 HP; AC generators from 1 kW to 1.5 MW.Utilize testing equipment such as transistor tester, oscilloscope, synchroscope, volt-ohm meter, system diagnostic software and sophisticated diagnostic instruments, to test and check electronic components and systems.Identify weak spots and potential trouble areas and repairs or replaces components to avoid possible future failure.RequirementsConditions of EmploymentQualificationsDuring the Revetment season, typically June through December, all Revetment employees, including this position, travel in various locations along the Mississippi River. The employees work 12 work days on & have 2 days off. Employees will be on TDY & will lodge in hotels within the vicinity of the work area. During the work season this position works typically a 10 hour shift. During the non-Revetment season, the crew works at Ensley Engineer Yard, Memphis, TN, on either a 5-day/8-hour or 4-day/10-hr. Can be assigned to work on Hired Labor projects.During lay-up periods from Revetment operations, incumbent may be utilized and assigned to other essential work in the District, such as repairs and maintenance of plant at the Service Base according to individual qualifications and skills, e.g., supervising others; working alone or with other skilled or unskilled workers to make specified repairs and/or perform necessary maintenance duties as directed. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Electronic Industrial Control Mechanic without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common Electronic Industrial Controls Mechanic duties. I can install, maintain, troubleshoot and repair industrial, electronic, electrical-electronic electro-hydraulic and electro-mechanical controls as contained on various equipment and systems. I can assist in the installation of new major electronic control systems and troubleshooting existing systems and equipment. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision Screen OutKnowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc.Theory of ElectronicsTrouble shooting (Electronic Equipment)Use of Test Equipment: Electronics Physical Effort: Incumbent performs work from ladders, scaffolding, and platforms and where the parts, equipment, or systems are in hard-to-reach places. Work requires the incumbent to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, and work in a tiring and uncomfortable position. Frequently lifts, carries, and sets up parts and equipment that weighs up to 50 pounds. Working Conditions: Work may require working in poorly lighted, heated, or and ventilated areas. Majority of work may be performed outside subject to extremes of weather. When equipment is fixed in place, it is sometimes necessary to work in warehouse or industrial areas exposed to loud noises, heat or cold, fumes, etc. Incumbent is constantly exposed to the possibility of electrocution while working on floating plant and boats. Incumbent is also exposed to drowning while working on the boat. Incumbent is exposed to the possibility of burns or engine crankcase explosion while working near engines and generators and less serious cuts and bruises. Incumbent is required to observe safety precautions wear appropriate safety equipment and work in the safe manner to prevent injury to self and other workmen and to prevent property damage.EducationAdditional InformationMale applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
