In the last few months, we have had experienced contractors from Alaska, New Jersey, and Maine each take us up on our offer.
If you are considering moving and working in paradise and want a short term project to test the waters and see if St. Thomas is for you, then please contact me.
We are 8 months into a complete post-hurricane rebuild and have several projects in process and others that have yet to be started. We are looking for experienced stateside contractor(s) who are qualified to lead any of the following projects. Please think carefully about which projects best match your skills and availability.
Projects:
1. Replace Porch Roof
- Install porch roof and supporting structure of simple construction design around perimeter of pool. The roof will range from 6-9 feet wide. It has 5 straight sections that vary in length. It will require 8" concrete posts and a 3 x 10 beam structure. Galvanized roof panels and a T-111 ceiling. A 2 x 10 head is already properly installed to build off of. Likely timeframe for work to be done: Between April and June.
2. Install New Deck
THIS POSITION HAS BEEN FILLED.
3. Pool Repair- This involves fixing a couple minor leaks and installing a new surface and tile waterline. The old Diamond Brite lining has been removed. This can take place as soon as May. No later than January.
3. Loft Support- Install a 24' beam that will allow for the removal of a load bearing, dividing wall in the room below. Most likely scenario based on material availability is utilizing 2- 3x12's and building a very strong 6" x 12" x 24' beam, or similar manufactered beam. April January completion window.
4. Indoor Staircase- Install new staircase in main house leading to loft. Old spiral staircase is no longer desirable. April- December targeted completion
5. Install New Kitchen- This room measures approximately 12' x 24'. This will include a large island. Old kitchen has been removed. This can take place any time after #3 is completed. May- March completion window.
6. Install New Outdoor Staircase-. This would be made from concrete/stone and may require the skills of a mason. This can be done at anytime. This happens to be on the shady side of the building and can be done concurrent with other projects listed.
7. Bedroom Bath- Install a new vanity and top. Install new shower/tub. Tile work, etcThis will be need to be completed no later than November.
8. Interior Carpentry Projects: Pantry shelves, hang new doors and build out two closets, etcThese projects can be completed in almost any order.
If you have excellent references and the required skills we need, we would like to offer you the best working conditions and lots of free time here in paradise.
We ask that you to work a 30 hour schedule. For example, this can be broken into 4-5 mornings so that you can be free by lunch time (good idea for outdoor projects when the Sun is not as powerful) or into 3-4 full days. The rest of the time is yours to explore and relax.
We are providing first class accommodations. Our home faces the Atlantic Ocean (see photos) and has spectacular views. The room does not have a full kitchen and instead has a new refrigerator, small oven, microwave, Keurig coffee maker and dishes/utensils.
We also provide high quality suite and beach towels, as well as, new beach chairs and two sets of snorkel gear and a cooler for the beach that is less than a mile away. We sit above Magen's Bay Beach, considered by many (including Conde Nast Magazine) to be one of the finest beaches in the world.
The home is located in a gated community of beautiful homes on a peninsula called Estate Peterborg that juts out into the sea. You will not be disappointed.
