Sushi Chef responsibilities include handling a wide range of raw fish and other ingredients, managing food stock and working with an attention to detail to fulfill all orders within quality standards. To be successful in this role, you should have experience with Japanese cuisine and be available to work during our opening hours. Ultimately, you will help us establish our reputation as one of the best sushi places in the country and increase our clientele.

Soto Restaurant is a unique Japanese restaurant located in South Austin. Executive Sushi Chef Andy, has worked as the executive chef in some of the best Japanese restaurants in the world. He now brings his extensive talent to Austin! We offer traditional Japanese cuisine as well as creative spins on some classic Japanese fair.The team now is expanding its reach south. And you can expect huge things from Chef Andy and this excellent team!

Duties and Responsibilities:

Assists Chef in determining how food should be presented, and plating dishes.

Assists in food prep assignments during off-peak periods.

Knows and complies consistently with standard portion sizes, cooking methods, quality standards and kitchen rules, policies and procedures.

Anticipates production capacity and avoids getting buried in backorders.

Recognizes superior quality products, presentations, and flavor.

Follows proper handling and right temperature of all food products.

Must be available for day and evening shifts, including weekends and holidays.

Duties may change according to business needs.

Qualifications:

Must know how to break down all types of fish.

Knowledge of Japanese cuisine and sustainable food systems is essential.

Experience making sushi and able to work fast, clean, and efficiently; must be skilled in making nigiri.

Expertise in fine dining service and Japanese cuisine.

Demonstrated ability to drive enthusiasm and teamwork with a commitment to excellence.

Must possess unquestioned ethics and integrity.

Be ServSafe Certified.

Professional demeanor and appearance is required.

Be able to work in a standing position for long periods of time (up to 8 hours).

Be able to reach, bend, stoop, and frequently lift up to 50 pounds
