General Notes

As the largest undergraduate program in the College of Fine Arts, the School of Design and Creative Technologies(SDCT) at The University of Texas at Austin has become a national leader in design, design thinking, game design, and creative technology innovation during its five-year tenure. Home to three undergraduate degrees, two graduate programs, a robust bridging discipline certificate, The Center for Integrated Design, and over 20 faculty, the Department of Design and Department of Arts and Entertainment Technologies make up the School of Design and Creative Technologies. We seek a curious, proactive collaborator to drive an inspiring and achievable communications strategy that does justice to the bold spirit of our innovative School.

Responsibilities

Strategic Planning: In collaboration with school leadership, develop and oversee the execution of a clear, courageous and achievable communication strategy for the School, including talking points, scripts and presentations for school leaders. Serve as a contributing member of the assistant dean's leadership team and the main point of contact for communications-related work for department chairs and program/center directors. Manage to a proscribed budget and maintain fiscal discipline and efficiency. Establish and maintain timely schedules for the production of publications and other materials

Innovative Story Creation and Promotion: Celebrate and support SDCT community of faculty, staff, students, and partners through dynamic and engaging storytelling. Seek out and create new stories, voices and perspectives from within our ranks – the hidden (and not so hidden) gems of SDCT programs – and find the best routes to share them with the world. Innovate and experiment beyond traditional platforms and find new and unique communication moments.

Digital and Print Management: Oversee and create content for SDCT web site, social media channels, print brochures and all digital and print content for the school. Devise and execute integrated strategies and campaigns that increase awareness and reach of SDCT and create and promote content that can be shared and amplified. Manage relationships with vendors for photography and video production to create multimedia assets for the school. Serve as managing editor of annual digital scholarly publication Journal of Design and Creative Technologies.

Media Relations: Oversee media relations, ensuring that we continually increase state, national and global visibility and proactively promote the school and its vision, mission, goals and societal and economic impact. Draft and disseminate media releases, maintain up-to-date media contact lists and cultivate and nurture strong and long-term relationships with key media outlets and reporters.

Internal Communications: Collaborate with SDCT leadership on, and send, internal leadership communications to students, faculty and staff.

Brand Management: Ensure that everything produced and disseminated to any internal or external group aligns with all SDCT, COFA and UT branding standards.

Communications Liaison: Establish and maintain role as liaison with UT Austin's central communications office and attend University Marketing and Communications meetings as representative of SDCT. Work closely with the Director of Communications for the College of Fine Arts.

Other projects as assigned: Offer occasional support on event planning and other administrative projects.
