GIS Technician

Client: Fortune 5 Tech Company

Location: Austin, Texas

Pay: $20/hour

Type: Full-time (40 hours/week)

Duration: Open-ended contract

Overview:
This position will perform tasks to support a mapping application. Job duties include but are not limited to evaluation, management, editing, and production of spatial data.

Description of GIS Technician:

• Responsible for content analysis, validation, cleansing, collection and reporting.
• Analyze and validate data content and assemble new content from various sources, including databases, files/spreadsheets, and websites.
• Respond to data inquiries from various groups within an organization.
• Create and publish regularly scheduled and/or ad hoc reports as needed

Key Qualifications of GIS Technician:

• Deep understanding of spatial concepts and theory
• Experience with Geographic Information Systems, proprietary or open-source
• 1+ year of experience in geospatial data analysis or map quality evaluation
• Detail-oriented
• Strong web-research skills, including the use of web-based maps
• Adept at working with large data sets with an ability to identify patterns
• Demonstrated ability to work independently, as well as in small and large cross functional teams
• Strong computer literacy
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Bachelor's Degree in Geography, GIS, Computer Science, or similar field
• Experience scripting with Python or other programming languages is a plus
