Job Role SummaryThis role will be a chemical engineer / process engineer resource for the Beaumont Refinery and Chemical Plant. This position will be located in Beaumont, TX
The Process Safety Engineer takes a lead role in applying engineering and process safety principles to develop multi-disciplinary solutions for safety & risk issues across operating assets and projects
Process safety fundamentals will be used to support Process Hazard Analysis (PHA), HAZOP, Management of Change, Risk Assessment Processes, and Corporate process safety improvement initiatives
The Process Safety Engineer collaborates with cross functional engineering teams, project teams, operating teams, and management to enable safe operations. The Process Safety Engineer will also provide technical mentorship to various engineering disciplines
Primary Job FunctionsMaintain and ensure a safe working environment at the site, ensuring compliance with all safety, health, environmental requirements
Lead HAZOPs and Safety Relief Reviews for manufacturing organizations
Facilitate or participate in Risk Assessments for HAZOPs, Safety Relief Reviews, or other assessments
Perform process safety review/approval as part of the Management of Change (MOC) process
Facilitate capital project safety reviews (HAZOP) and ensure follow ups are incorporated into projects
Review and approve Project Design Basis (PDB) with additional focus on deviations from Design Practices and Global Practices
Serve as facility siting coordinator for the site
Provide support to business team for other ad-hoc process safety related requests
Collaborate with applicable Process Safety networks to maintain safety leadership and share best practices
Participate in incident investigations as requested
Job RequirementsB.S. in Chemical Engineering or equivalent degree
Minimum of 5 years industry experience
Experience with HAZOPs and safety relief reviews
Excellent oral & written communication skills and problem solving ability
Solid understanding of manufacturing processes
In depth knowledge and experience with process design and safety standards
Good engineering judgment; ability to recognize, assess, and mitigate hazards
The ability to work in a dynamic, team environment, fostering collaboration within the organization, or an individual contributor to apply safety and risk management tools
Demonstrated ability to handle multiple priorities and stakeholders
Preferred Knowledge / Skills / AbilitiesA minimum of 10 years industry experience with 5 years in direct process safety or process design experience
Experience leading or facilitating PHAs (HAZOP) and Risk Assessments
Strong analytical and communication skills
Demonstrated work experience in supporting chemicals / refining / downstream operations
