Responsible for assisting the Director in all phases of the Veteran’s Upward Bound program.Description of Duties Assist the director with the enforcement of federal, state and Veteran codes regulations, policies and procedures. Develops short-term and long-term program goals. Advises pre-college low-income-first-generation student Veterans on post- secondary education. Assists with the personnel management, including recruiting, selection, training and evaluating of employees. Develops and coordinates seminars, workshops and social/cultural activities needed for the program. Works with traditionally underrepresented populations, preferably veterans. Assists with budgetary responsibilities for the assigned program. Develops and writes proposals for funding grants and assists others in proposal writing. Represents department in official functions. Attends meetings, conferences, and seminars related to the programs mission and goals. Develops, cultivates, and maintains working relationships with internal/external departments/agencies and other organizations associated with and/or receiving benefit from the program. Performs other duties as required.Supervision ReceivedGeneral direction from the assigned supervisor.Supervision GivenSupervises assigned staff.Required EducationBachelor’s degree in Education, Counseling, Administration or related field.Preferred EducationMasters degree in field related to program or project.Licenses/CertificationsNone.Required ExperienceThree (3) years experience in field related to program or project.Preferred ExperienceExperience obtained working with Veterans Upward Bound programs. Analytical experience obtained while working with analyzing large volumes of data in excel or other related database management systems.EquipmentUse of standard office equipment, personal computer, and audio/visual equipment.Working ConditionsNeeds to be able to successfully perform all required duties. Usual office conditions. Must be able to move between buildings, stoop, bend, lift and reach to set up for workshops, seminars, and presentations. Must be able to travel to local sites for workshops, seminars, and presentations.OtherMust have ability to work under pressure, solve problems, and negotiate. Must possess excellent writing, communication, and organizational skills. Normally usual office environment; particular program or project may require ability to drive a car for local or distant travel for consultation, training, or meetings.
