The successful applicant will bring an expert level of front office experience to the position and understand the demands of supporting executives in a fast-paced environment. This person must be professional, enjoy working in a high-volume environment and be able to apply strong organizational skills while being flexible in their daily routine. If this is you, we invite you to apply to become a member of our team.Job Summary: Billing and coding specialist, under general supervision, reviews, records, and assigns codes to diagnoses/procedures performed so the insurance companies, third party payers, and patients can be billed. Prepares accounts for next day appointments.Required Education and Experience:

High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.

One year of related experience in medical and dental office coding.

Certified medical coder certificate.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet and database applications.

Knowledge of the CDT/ICD10/HCPCS Coding/Medicare/Medicare/MC Plan specific/ billing and coding guidelines.

Residency program compliance documentation/billing guidelines, Health Insurance Portability, and Accountability Act (HIPAA)

Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.

Effective verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Education and Experience:

Five years of related experience in medical and dental office coding.

Experience with billing in Oral and Maxillofacial surgery and/or Plastic Surgery

Experience working with diverse individuals and communities

Responsibilities:

Reviews all patients’ balances, refunds, and forwards proper accounts to collections.

Reviews charts in applicable software, Axium, for compliance with regulations for billing, residency documentation, and signature guidelines.

Bills statements once regulations and guidelines are met.

Obtains clarification from providers on any conflicting issues, required documentation, or addendums in order to assign codes and bills statements.

Assist practice, provider, residents, front desk, clinical personnel and other with questions regarding coding and other statement issues.

Assists with payment posting or other accounts receivable follow up tasks when statements are complete.

Prepares accounts for next day appointments by verifying benefits, calling patient to inform what is owed for visit, confirms referrals are on file.

Performs other duties as assigned.
