Position: AmeriCorps Member Parents as Teachers (PAT) Parent Educator, First Year

Reports to: AmeriCorps Site Supervisor & AmeriCorps PAT Program Supervisor

Details: Full-Time Service Term: September 1, 2020 – July 31, 2021

1700 hours minimum: days, evenings and weekends as needed

Purpose: The AmeriCorps PAT member contributes to the achievement of United Way of El Paso County’s mission, vision, goals within the education impact area by addressing a key strategy: home visitation, and serve as a main source of resources and referrals for families. The PAT AmeriCorps Member’s responsibility is to successfully implement the Parents as Teachers program, an evidence-based early childhood home visitation framework that builds strong communities, thriving families and children who are healthy, safe and ready to learn.

Essential Functions of an AmeriCorps PAT Parent Educator

Delivers essential programmatic functions of the AmeriCorps PAT program to include:

· Preparing for and conducting bi-weekly and monthly personal visits with families in El Paso County

· Completing developmental screenings on children enrolled in the program

· Working with assigned AmeriCorps Resource Navigator to identify family needs, set goals and make appropriate referrals to community resources

· Assisting in recruitment and presentation events within current and potential partnerships

Delivers essential logistical functions of the AmeriCorps PAT program to include:

· Reporting regularly to Site Supervisor and Program Supervisor

· Completing and submitting timesheets and leave requests on a regular basis

· Contributing to program recruitment, promotion and acquisition of in-kind donations for relevant activities

· Serving at least 20% families from Host Site

· Implementing the Parents as Teachers Curriculum with a minimum of 12-15 families

· Maintaining documentation of every home visit for recordkeeping purposes and meeting programmatic deadlines

· Assisting AmeriCorps in tracking and entering performance measures into data management systems

Participates in AmeriCorps activities and events, including PAT professional development:

· Proudly wears the AmeriCorps logo during all hours of program service, as required

· Actively engages in AmeriCorps PAT program-related activities, such as trainings, meetings, presentations, civic reflection and reflective supervision

· Celebrates program-recognized days and events which include, but are not limited to National Day of Service and Remembrance, Martin Luther King Day, AmeriCorps Week, Home Visitation Advocacy Day, Mayor’s Day, Earth Day and Week of the Young Child

· Completes the required training for Disaster Response and Recovery as well as Prepare for Life after AmeriCorps service

· Completes the required number of hours of trainings, workshops, conferences, etc. annually to maintain PAT credential

As stated in OneStar Terms & Conditions XIV. D. :

In the event of a local, state, or federal disaster declaration, AmeriCorps members may be asked on a volunteer basis or be required by OneStar to activate to assist in disaster response and recovery activities within their communities. This may involve virtual service opportunities or in-person service opportunities. This may include service opportunities outside of the member’s standard service hours or in place of their standard service duties. In the event of a large-scale, high needs local, state, or federal disaster, AmeriCorps members may voluntarily or be required by OneStar to deploy to an area outside of their service area to assist in disaster response and recovery activities.

Required Qualifications (documentation proving qualification will be collected)

· Must be a U.S. Citizen, a U.S. national, or a lawful permanent resident alien

· Must be at least 18 years of age on or before September 1, 2020.

· Must be able to communicate proficiently in English and in Spanish

· Must possess a high school diploma or GED

· Associates Degree or 60 college hours preferred in Health, Education or Social Work

· Must be competent in web browsing, emailing, quality data and quantity data entries, and Microsoft Office Programs

· Must maintain a valid driver’s license, insurance and vehicle

· Must have a minimum of two years’ previous supervised experience working or volunteering with young children and/or families

Other requirements

· Must be able to work a flexible schedule with the possibility of early morning, evening, and weekend work to complete a minimum of 1700 hours for the duration of the service year

· Must be able to attend training for the full month of September. These trainings, along with service activities, may be conducted in person, virtually, or a combination of both. Must have adequate virtual workspace with access to reliable internet and phone service.

Skills and Demonstrated Abilities · Strong leadership, verbal, and written communication skills; and strong presentation and interpersonal skills

· Intermediate knowledge of MS Office applications

· Dependable time management and organization skills to coordinate multiple tasks

· Reliable written and verbal recordkeeping, documenting, and reporting skills

Relationships

Internal and external contacts are critical to success of this program. The PAT AmeriCorps Member will focus on developing and maintaining relationships with diverse stakeholders, including host sites, educational institutions, foundations, community groups, government agencies, non-profit agencies, neighborhood associations, faith-based organization, and individual donors.

Vulnerable populations

This position involves recurring access to vulnerable populations: children age 17 or younger, persons age 60 and older, and/or individuals with disabilities. Criminal history checks will be performed and results from the checks will determine Member selection.

Living Allowance and Benefits

AmeriCorps Member PAT Parent Educator, First Year will receive (upon successful completion of program requirements):

· A living allowance of $14, 279.10 distributed bi-monthly throughout program year

· For the amount of the education award the individual may receive upon successful completion of the term of service is included and accurate with the current rate ($6, 195 for FT members)

· A health insurance plan and SNAP eligibility

Eligible AmeriCorps Members may apply to receive childcare benefits
