The Applied Mathematics organization comprises the most concentrated group of mathematicians in Boeing. The team members lead and conduct research & development and provide consulting for business units on a wide variety of mathematical technologies. We are currently seeking a Senior Applied Mathematician (level 4) ) to support our team in Seattle, Washington in a virtual capacity.

The candidate selected for this position will solve geometric, optimization, or numerical and computational problems, assist with mathematical research, contribute to the development of research proposals, influence colleagues and customers to use mathematical tools and processes, and code, test and maintain mathematical software. The successful candidate will be aware of industry best practices for software release and continuous integration/continuous development.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Refines and validates problem specifications and formulates problems in mathematics terms
  • Develops complex algorithms and evaluates resources to solve mathematical problems
  • Teams in mathematical research activities and monitors trends
  • Contributes to development of proposals. Influences functional decision makers to use mathematical tools and processes
  • Assists in forecasting future mathematical needs and capabilities
  • Designs, codes, tests and maintains mathematical software tools


This position has been identified as a virtual opportunity and does not require applicants to live in Seattle, Washington.

The position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a "US Person" as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. "US Person" includes , lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
  • Bachelor Degree or higher from an accredited course of study in Mathematics, Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or Chemistry and/or equivalent work experience
  • Experience in one or more of the following: geometry, optimization, numerical methods, or high performance computing


Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience)
  • Experience in continuous integration and delivery/deployment processes
  • Experience with agile development
  • PhD and 4+ years of experience
  • Experience with industry standard software languages


Typical Education/Experience:

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+4 years' related work experience, Master+7 years' related work experience, 13 years' related work experience, etc.)

Summary pay range: $91,980 - $170,820.
