Position Details

The Associate Dean, School of Interdisciplinary Studies is a full-time on-campus and in–person position. The position is part of Texas Christian University (TCU) Academic Affairs division.

The School of Interdisciplinary Studies seeks applicants for the position of Associate Dean. The preferred start date is July 2022, and no later than August 2022. The Associate Dean is part of the Dean’s leadership team and serves as the chief academic officer of the School, responsible for curriculum, faculty, strategic planning, and budget and resource allocation for the School of Interdisciplinary Studies departments and programs.

The Associate Dean for Interdisciplinary Studies will be an advanced associate or full professor with an earned doctorate or equivalent from an accredited institution and a record of teaching and scholarship sufficient to obtain tenure at the university. If the Associate Dean holds the rank of associate professor with tenure, the responsibility for review and potential promotion to full professor lies with the School of Interdisciplinary Studies. Additionally, the preferred candidate will:

  • possess significant experience in academic administration and leadership;
  • hold a doctoral degree in education, business, the fine arts, STEM, medicine or liberal arts;
  • function as both an administrator and a teacher-scholar with a 1:1 teaching load; and
  • report directly to the Dean of the School of Interdisciplinary Studies.

Duties and responsibilities include:

  • Overseeing faculty processes involving reappointment, tenure, promotion, merit pay, and post-tenure review. Makes draft recommendations to the dean on promotion and tenure reviews;
  • Taking the lead in drafting and revising faculty policies and procedures such as tenure and promotion, faculty review, merit pay, and faculty search procedures;
  • Serving as first line of support for department chairs, including troubleshooting and facilitating conflict resolution between and/or among SIS personnel;
  • Coordinating of SIS course scheduling;
  • Ongoing communication and collaboration with other units whose faculty members provide teaching and service support to SIS;
  • Representing the Dean and faculty on university committees;
  • Providing oversight for the administration of the Interdisciplinary Inquiry major;
  • Serving as the chair of the SIS College Curriculum Committee and submitting approved proposals to the Undergraduate Council;
  • Coordinating regular assessments of student learning as the SIS Assessment Ambassador;
  • Providing effective change-management leadership, management, planning, mentoring and advocacy for faculty and programs within SIS.
  • Managing and stewarding faculty awards processes, including the generating and publishing of announcements, recruiting and oversight of award committees, communicating with nominees and nominators, and forwarding nominated/selected files to Provost’s office;
  • Designing and delivering professional development and mentoring programs for faculty;
  • In cooperation with the SIS Diversity Advocate, supporting data-driven development and implementation of policies and procedures that promote equitable experiences and outcomes for students, faculty, staff, and administrators of varying racial and ethnic backgrounds;
  • Initiate collaborations with other units to articulate novel programs;
  • Advancing and guiding unit excellence and best practices via reliance on data analytics to support decision-making;
  • Collaborating with Assistant Dean for Student Success to develop, maintain, and co-manage a highly effective undergraduate student professional development initiative that addresses students’ academic and non-academic career aspirations;
  • Conducting and managing effective fact-finding investigations to include recommending successful resolutions for instances of alleged student behavioral/academic misconduct and those of faculty and staff;
  • Representing SIS and serving as proxy for the Dean where needed and appropriate; and
  • Performing other related duties as assigned.
