Under minimal supervision of the North American Director of Customer Care & Life Cycle Services, the Application Engineering Manager is responsible managing the Application Engineering (AE) Team assigned to Houston & Costa Rica. The AE Manager is responsible for overseeing all quotations and related activities for all actuator brands, as well as the configuration and order entry for all configured Electric Actuators only. The individual selected will collaborate with all areas of the business as well as peers at other sites to drive continuous improvement in the quality of the service delivered to all Actuation Technologies customers.

Description for Internal Candidates

As an Application Engineering Manager, you will:

• Provide leadership, management, and technical guidance to direct reports for quotations and order entry (configured electric actuators only) to support external and internal customers.


• Monitor and ensure the Actuation Enquiries mailboxes are functioning as required.


• Prioritize and manage workload for orders and quotes for direct reports located in both Houston and Costa Rica.


• Ensure all non-standard, Engineered to Order (ETO) quotes & orders are routed to the Configuration Eng. Team in a timely manner.


• Oversee the review of project specifications and escalate to Product Managers and/or Sales Leadership as needed.


• Develop and maintain standard work procedures for the Application Engineering department.


• Develop standards, training needs, growth opportunities, annual objectives, and performance appraisals for direct reports.


• Ensure all employees are trained appropriately to perform job functions with appropriate cross-training across the product portfolio (Electrics & Pneumatics).


• Work to ensure all AEs have the tools and associated training required to properly function in their AE role.


• Represent the AE Team in management discussions regarding staffing levels, reorganization, and business tool development.


• Approve vacation, leave, work scheduling and travel for direct reports.


• Collaborate with Sales teams to appropriately establish customer expectations regarding Actuation Technologies/Houston capabilities.


• Interface with customers internal & external as needed for resolution of problems or obstacles.


• Establish and maintain metrics to drive continuous improvement in speed, quality, cost and OTD of the quote process, order entry, and technical support functions.


• Ensure compliance with ISO procedures, documentation, ES&H and all applicable Trade Compliance requirements.


• May perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS

• Bachelors Degree in Engineering or Business Administration


• 5 years in a similar customer facing, engineering support or Application Engineering / Inside Sales Manager role in a manufacturing or technical environment.


• Experience in leading organizations using Sales and Order Management tools


• Demonstrated decision making skills with the ability to analyze complex customer issues and to develop, implement and communicate cost-effective solutions and negotiation skills


• Demonstrated successful experience in process and productivity improvement initiatives
