Job Summary

In this role you will support operations of the ISS by managing the functionality of the ISS Ethernet LAN, leading coordination across the team and develop plans to enhance the future of the network as its utilization grows.

This position will be 100% onsite in Houston, TX.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Conduct real time analysis of the ISS Ethernet LAN operation
  • Conduct traffic model analysis and decipher any network performance issues by conducting data forensics
  • Identify network performance issues and causes and work with the product vendor to develop resolutions
  • Communicate and demonstrate progress to ISS Avionics and Software division and ISS program management
  • Manage the interaction and efficiency of other contract support to the ISS Ethernet Network
  • Utilize knowledge of network performance assessments and increase in network usage and traffic to help guide future enhancement of the network
  • Create and clarify enhanced or modified network architecture and application of enhanced industry specifications resulting in newer system requirements for the Ethernet network (alignment to IEEE802.3 Ethernet, and TTE (Time-Triggered Ethernet) protocols)
  • Introduce new analysis tools, methodologies, and network hardware/software technology that could enhance the ISS Ethernet Network now and, in the future
  • Implementation and documentation of network enhancement project phase reviews
  • Analysis, evaluation, and assessment of the limitations of internal, vendor and module prime contractor developments
  • Validate spacecraft, payload, and other non-ISS vehicle network interface requirements


What You Need to be Successful

Minimum Requirements:
  • BS or MS degree from an accredited institution and 8 years of related experience
  • Strong background in Avionics Command and Data Handling, with emphasis on how spacecraft systems route data
  • Previous experience in the application of computer network technology in space systems
  • Strong background in ethernet protocols and IEEE802.3 (Ethernet) standards
  • Experience in managing requirements and system engineering verification testing in the aerospace sector
  • Ability to prepare written documents and to verbally present at various meetings
  • Ability to organize and prioritize tasks for yourself and a the LAN team to meet deadlines
  • Strong interpersonal skills contributing to leading team integration, collaboration, and project management


How You Can Stand Out

It would be impressive if you have one or more of these:
  • Familiarity with Network Troubleshooting Techniques
  • Familiarity with Scripting language such as Python
  • Familiarity with Linux systems, programming with C/C
  • Familiarity with Git or other similar configuration management/version control systems
  • Familiar with commercial products available in computer networking technology
  • Familiarity with Time Triggered Ethernet (TTE) (SAE AS6802) and AFDX (ARINC 664p7)
