PLC Field Service Technician

Vacancy expired!

Description:An ideal candidate will have experience working as a traveling Field Service Technician and have material handling conveyor experience, or some manufacturing maintenance experience. You will be strong in both electrical and mechanical systems as well as the ability to troubleshoot PLCs such as Allen Bradley and Siemens. This is a road warrior opportunity and you must be comfortable being on the road all year where you will be able to return home for a weekend once every 4-5 weeks.

The daily job responsibilities include ensuring that the conveyors, equipment, and electrical components are fully functional and ready for the client’s PLC team who will perform acceptance tests. This included performing IO Checkouts with Rockwell Automation Studio 5000, Siemens Step 7, or the client's proprietary commissioning software. The electrical components being commissioned include and are not limited to photo eyes, encoders, actuators, control stations, three-phase motors, VFDs, beacon lights, etc.

Electrical troubleshooting is the primary focus of this position. Being able to diagnose and identify the issue in the control panel or for an electrical component not functioning is critical as well as finding and implementing possible solutions using technical documents or manuals and different troubleshooting methods. This is a hands-on position where the individual may have to take apart the system in order to access the main components being tested or investigated in addition to replace broken electrical components such as photo eyes and wires.

It is important to note that this is not a strictly PLC programming position. The individual will not be creating the logic for the system from scratch. They will be in the ladder logic mainly to test the I/O on the system and diagnose any problems encountered. In most cases, the customer will have their own PLC team on-site to support any changes in the program however there are projects that will require the individual to modify and alter the logic as well as be more involved in the PLC programming process.

The position requires individuals to climb over and crawl under the conveyor systems and requires walking long distances in the distribution centers.
