What you can expect to do:

Follow all policies and procedures as outlined by The Post Oak Hotel Handbook.

Set assigned station(s) with the determined amount of preparation needed in a timely manner following prep list needs.

Participate actively to the kitchen activities (specials, menu changes, rules enforcement) by leading by example and delivering their best supporting management vision.

Ensure kitchen compliance and work in a safe manner following Texas sanitation guidelines, rules and regulations while ensuring adherence to quality expectations and standards.

Follow safe work habits when working with kitchen equipment such as knives, slicer, ovens, stoves, food processors etc.

Keep workstation clean and organized at all times while keeping the station stocked for the next shift.

Properly store food at appropriate temperatures while maintaining accurate food inventories.

Proficient in food allergies and knowledgeable of food preparations for special meal requirements.

Develop and maintain positive working relationships with fellow colleagues; support colleagues to reach common goals; listen and respond appropriately to the concerns of other colleagues.

Cover kitchen positions when necessary.

Must be able to determine what the minimum standard acceptable for product quality is and make sure that no product is served that fails to meet that minimum standard.

Rotates food to ensure freshness at all times.

Keep his/her area in perfect condition (work station as well as coolers and work space such as the back of the house areas including but not limited to all kitchens, hallways, storage areas, bathrooms, lockers, cafeteria).

Ensure proper portion, arrangement, and food garnish. Maintain food logs. Monitor the quality and quantity of food that is prepared.

The colleague must be able to prepare ingredients for cooking, including portioning, chopping, and storing food. Wash and peel fresh fruits and vegetables. Weigh, measure, and mix ingredients.

The colleague will be able to prepare and cook food according to recipes, quality standards, presentation standards, and food preparation checklist. Prepare cold foods. Operate ovens, stoves, grills, microwaves, and fryers.

Test foods to determine if they have been cooked sufficiently. Monitor food quality while preparing food.

Understand and perform the task of cleaning and disinfecting kitchen area, tables, tools, knives, and equipment to keep them at the necessary health standards.

All colleagues will be expect to follow all company safety and security policies and procedures; report maintenance needs, accidents, injuries, and unsafe work conditions to manager; complete safety training and certifications.

Ensure uniform and personal appearance are clean and professional; maintain confidentiality of proprietary information; protect company assets. Speak with others using clear and professional language.

Knowledgeable and well-rounded in all areas of the kitchen including cooking techniques, knife skills and product knowledge.

Must be passionate about cooking, practices and procedures.

Has working knowledge of culinary techniques, be organized, move quickly, handle pressure well and take great pride in their demeanor and work.

Possess great communication skills and display a pleasant and outgoing personality.

Ability to work in high stress conditions, pay close attention to detail, handle multiple tasks, work efficiently and demonstrate high level of patience.

Stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, reach and perform repetitive motions frequently for 8-12 hours a day.

Ability to lift, carry, push or pull 50-100 lbs.

Follow all company policies and procedures including food safety program and safety and security.

Serve as role model figure, be approachable, open minded, eager to learn and lead by example.

Find methods to improve the efficiency of the department and increase productivity.

Two to Four years of experience working in a high volume luxury oriented kitchen preferred.

Culinary degree preferred or equivalent training experience.

ServSafe certification required.

Previous hotel experience preferred.

Experience and/or knowledge with Forbes 5 star service and standards preferred.
