We are looking for another caring midwife to join our homebirthteam. We provide inclusive, evidence-based care to clients throughout Central Texas. The midwife will be responsible for providing care during pregnancy, birth, postpartum, and lactation. You will provide prenatal and postnatal education, examine the patient during the course of the pregnancy, and assist patients in creating birth plans. You will also ensure the health and well-being of the newborn and mother during delivery. You must be licensed to practice in Texas. Compensation rates are negotiable.
Midwife Duties and Responsibilities:
-Perform gynecological exams
-Educate patients on health, nutrition, and family planning
-Take patient vital signs
-Perform tests to obtain information about patients’ medical conditions
-Counsel birthing persons on birthing plans
-Provide emotional care for clientsduring birth
-Prepare for birthing by following all health and safety standards
-Support clientthrough the birthing process
-Perform deliveries in the home setting
-Tend to the health and well-being of both the baby and clientduring the process
-Arrange appropriate transfers to higher level providers in an emergency
-Provide care for mothers and newborns after birth
-Weigh and measure newborns
-Monitor the patient’s vital signs and heart rate during birth
-Study patient history and health assessments
-Communicate stages of birth to family members
-Explain and demonstrate breast/chestfeeding techniques
-Monitor patient postpartum and be available for questions or concerns
-Participate in research and further educational opportunities
-Perform CPR, NRP or other emergency measures if needed
Midwife Requirements and Qualifications:
-Bachelor’s degree from an accredited School of Nursing and Midwifery and certification from the American Midwifery Certification Board; additional education and certification a plus
-Must be registered as a nurse in the state of Texas
-Ability to multitask, prioritize, and manage time efficiently
-Excellent verbal and written communication skills
-Compassionate and caring of patients
-Calm and cool-headed with a positive attitude
