Assists in facilitating workshops and learns to make presentations on and off campus to groups regarding financial aid and scholarships.Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Advises and counsels students, parents, and/or prospective students in solving their educational financial problems through scholarships, loans, grants, employment and financial counseling. Responds to questions and counseling needs in-person and by written, phone, and e-mail means from currently enrolled students, prospective students and parents. Learns to provide loan and indebtedness counseling to students on an individual and group basis. Learns to assist students with specialized needs such as Study Abroad, Vocational Rehabilitation, Graduate, and International Students
Assists outreach staff with prospective students and in their transition to current students. Learns how outreach and early awareness staff interact with local staff and transition students from prospective to currently enrolled students.
Performs reviews of student files, making adjustments as needed. Learns to award, revise and/or approve the awarding of financial aid through the specific controls of program policy and guidelines. Learns to make adjustments, if necessary for compliance issues, and submits the corrections through the mainframe correction process or submits through Electronic Data Exchange (EDE)
Reviews Satisfactory Academic Progress appeals and makes decisions regarding the validity of these appeals
Serves as regularly scheduled Quick Queue agent and assists with coverage of front counter in the main reception area of department, greeting visitors, answering inquiries regarding federal financial aid forms, records, procedures, and policies. Learns to serve as a back-up counselor, as well as a walk-in counselor on a weekly basis. Learns to provide assistance and guidance to other financial aid staff to ensure that processing activities adhere to established policies and procedures
Assists with conducting on and off campus presentations, seminars, and/or workshops for students (particularly high schools) and possibly for professional development training. May work at resource tables as requested by groups from TAMIU, prospective student groups and others
Assists with review, revision, and interpretation of complex rules, regulations, procedures and policies relating to general financial aid, scholarships, and team specialty area(s). Learns to interpret and maintain knowledge of current federal, state and institutional policies, procedures and regulations pertaining to financial aid, student employment and scholarships
Assists in developing and revising financial aid consumer information materials, publications and brochures for currently enrolled students, prospective students and their parents, colleges, departments, and university use
Assists in planning and executing special events for specific audiences and in support of departmental initiatives
Responds to varied questions that may require researching and consolidating data regarding financial aid, scholarships and specialized programs

Processes, analyzes, and updates financial aid applicant reports utilizing Banner, Campus Logic, Webfocus, and other soft wares on a regular basis to ensure accurate ISIR data, awarding, and disbursement of aid
Minimum Requirements
Education – Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of training and experience in financial aid, scholarships, employment, student veteran services, recruitment, mentoring, advising, bookkeeping, accounting, banking, auditing, planning, organizing, and customer service.
Experience – Some experience in planning, organizing, or in higher education.
Knowledge and AbilitiesKnowledge of:
Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications.
Ability to:
Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others. Oral and written communication skills. Customer Service skills. Ability to work individually or as a team. Ability to organize and make decisions. Ability to relate well with a diverse student population.
