Job Description

SUMMARY
This position is primarily responsible for the creation of technology-based curriculum, assist with writing policies, procedures, processes, departmental newsletter, and enterprise communications.

Objectives of this Role
  • Serve as a Training and Communication Specialist dedicated to Information Services
  • Develop high quality curriculum focused on employee/learner experience for technology-based applications, project rollouts and technology changes aimed at enhancing the employee work environment.
  • Develop high quality, comprehensive documentation that meets organizational standards appropriate for its intended audience
  • Develop user-friendly content that meets the needs of the target audience
  • Obtain an understanding of products and services to translate complex product information into simple and clear content
  • Adhere to standard templates and style as established by the Procedures and Communication Specialists and the organization, and as indicated by Microsoft Manual of Style or department and organizational needs and requirements
  • Work with department leaders to link procedural documents to existing document repositories for ease of reference
  • Evaluate current communication channels and content and develop innovative approaches for improvement

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS)
  • Research, outline, write, and edit new and existing content, working closely with Information Services and other lines of business, as needed to understand project requirements
  • Gather information from subject matter experts to develop, organize, and write any materials requested
  • Work with management and assigned staff members to determine what documents are needed
  • Schedule and maintain updates to documents with accordance to review cycle while ensuring current standards
  • Work with document repository administrators to ensure that documents can be created and housed effectively
  • Collaborate with Communication Specialists, from other lines of business, to share information essential to the creation of uniform, quality documents and receive feedback from differing perspectives
  • Work within templates that uphold organizational standards
  • Develop content in alternate media as requested, using uniform templates and layouts, where available, to ensure a consistent and cohesive style across all written products
  • Train new hires and other end users from LOBs on Information Services supported platforms, software, processes, and procedures as required by Information Services management
  • Ensure documents include necessary references to regulatory standards and organization risk
  • Create and maintain an Information Services department newsletter and content for use on the department’s intranet site.

  • Performs other related duties as required and assigned

Education and Work Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant technical field (i.e. journalism, English, or communications)
  • 2-4 years industry experience as an effective technical writer and trainer
  • Previous experience writing documentation and procedural materials for multiple audiences

Technical/Functional Competencies
  • Communication skills- Must be able to take complex, technical information and translate it for readers who have nontechnical backgrounds
  • Detail oriented- Must be able to create detailed, precise step by step instructions which can be performed by the user and understood by laypersons
  • Translation skills- Must be able to think about a procedure or product in the way that a person without technical experience would
  • Teamwork- Must be able to work well with others as a part of a team, i.e., writers, technical and managerial staff, and others at all levels of the organization
  • Technical skills- Must be able to understand and then explain technical information
  • Writing skills- Must have excellent writing skills to communicate complex ideas clearly in simple, concise language
