Boeing Talent Acquisition is currently looking for a Senior Software Engineering Manager to join their team in Hazelwood MO, Long Beach CA, Mesa AZ, Plano TX, Huntsville AL, Manassas VA and Denver CO. This position will focus on supporting the Wisk joint venture flight software development projects.

The Boeing Company software engineering manager is needed to lead the real-time embedded software function and drive daily execution of the computing platform and navigation software teams. This software engineering position requires an experienced background in developing software, including the use of agile processes and lifecycle management tools and is able to serve as an agile mentor and coach for the team.

This role specializes in the ability to lead a typical team size of 8 to 12 US-based software engineers, as well as, a similar sized international-based independent test engineers, to breakdown work, organize, plan, integrate and track the scope of a 24-month software development project from beginning to end.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Leads by example with the best of Boeing Behaviors to motivate and inspire a team of engineers on a day to day basis via mentoring, coaching and employee recognition
  • Responsible for new employee onboarding, computing assets and training, including annual evaluations and career development, aspiring to hire and develop the best team and talent
  • Develops team strategies and approaches for new business activities, grooms estimates and ROMs for approval
  • Promotes establishing standards, efficient processes and tools; and works with software quality assurance (SQA) representatives on audit results and compliance
  • Critically reviews agile software plans to organize a well-defined, robust backlog with executable software build plans
  • Participates in daily scrums and weekly scrum of scrums to promote better communication and facilitate removal of impediments and roadblocks
  • Oversees software configuration control board (SCCB) to ensure vigorous configuration management (CM) practices are adopted
  • Fosters innovation and improvements via robust agile retrospections to help identify inefficiencies, common ailments and develop timely remedies
  • Creates work package level of details for program baselines and change requests, including defining key handoffs and milestones for a fully networked project schedule with other engineering functional teams to establish critical path
  • Works with the software technical leads and subject matter experts (SMEs) to define quantifiable data for assessed percent complete and weekly earned value reporting
  • Presents performance to plan briefings, including weekly accomplishments, cost and schedule performance, requests for help needed, staffing profiles, weekly and year to date earned value (EV) metrics, key performance indicators (KPIs), and casts light on any risks, issues or opportunities in a PowerPoint format, to the program manager, senior managers and executives on a periodic basis


This position allows telecommuting. The selected candidate will be required to perform some work onsite at one of the listed location options.

This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. A final U.S. Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
  • Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry
  • 9+ years of experience with software development lifecycle
  • Up to 25% travel is required


Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
  • Atlassian tool suite experience
  • Agile software development process experience
  • DO-178C experience
  • 3+ years' experience in real time embedded or bare metal projects
  • 5+ years leading technical projects
