I. Position Summary:The Infection Prevention Coordinator provides coordination of the Infection Prevention Program in the hospital. The main objective is to assure a high quality of patient care by identifying and eliminating risks of infection to patients and personnel through daily surveillance; by identifying areas which need special monitoring; by assisting with educational and research programs; and by teaching information pertinent to infection control to staff, physicians, and patients. I. Qualifications:A. Education:Hold a current Texas license as a Registered Nurse perferred.B. Training and Experience:
Current BLS Certification through the American Heart Association upon hire or transfer to department.

Certified in Infection Control (CIC) is preferred but not required. Must be able to successfully complete CIC certification after 2 years in Infection Prevention role.
At minimum of five (5) years in clinical nursing. Related infection control experience preferred. Teaching experience would be helpful, but not required.
C. Job Knowledge: A working knowledge of epidemiology and infectious diseases. Familiarity with hospital organizational structure, function of various departments, and policies/procedures of the hospital. Knowledge of regulatory and accrediting agency standards. Able to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
