The Boeing Company is looking for a Mid-Level Software Engineer to join our team in Chicago, IL, Colorado Springs, CO, El Segundo, CA, Huntington Beach, CA, Long Beach, CA, Mesa, AZ, Plano, TX, San Antonio, or Seal Beach CA.

The Open Source Program Office (OSPO) is a new team at Boeing and growing rapidly. Our mission is to champion open source engagement across the enterprise and deliver a world class open source management experience with flawless compliance. To fulfill that mission, we are looking for Software Engineers to build out our tooling and automation. Occasional travel may be required for this role.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Operationalize the open source policy and process through automation
  • Automate Software Composition Analysis (SCA) through a combination of COTS, open source, and in-house tooling. Conduct trade studies and work with Product Owners to meet requirements for a broad range of stakeholders
  • Integrate with Software Bill of Materials (SBOM) tools to generate and analyze SBOMs as part of a continuous delivery pipeline
  • Integrate with various legacy enterprise tools and data sources to automate open source and third party software management
  • Create a common repository for third party software and automate license and security compliance and reporting
  • Collaborate with the Product Owner on the backlog and technical roadmap
  • Seek out additional automation opportunities
  • Track and improve KPIs
  • Focus on delivering value early and often


This position allows telecommuting. The selected candidate will be required to perform some work onsite at one of the listed location options.

This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
  • Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry
  • Experience with leading development projects using DevSecOps, cloud native development, and software factories
  • Experience with Agile, Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) and DevOps
  • Experience working with Software Composition Analysis (SCA) tools like X-Ray, Black Duck, or similar tools


Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
  • Experience managing and scaling binary artifact repositories such as Artifactory and Nexus
  • Familiarity with standards such as SPDX and CycloneDX
  • Experience with API development and creating enterprise API catalogs


Typical Education/Experience:

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD, Master+3 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
