Serves as the focal point for developing and coordinating marketing, media, information/news updates, and other appropriate exposure for the Division of Student Affairs programs, services, and activities. Work hours: Mon-Fri; 8 AM-5 PM or as work requirements indicate. Occasional evenings/weekends required. Essential Duties and Responsibilities35% Divisional Marketing. Plans and manages marketing and promotion efforts for the Division of Student Affairs to a broad array of internal and external audiences. Initiates and coordinates video, audio, digital, social, graphic, and print media for events, activities, and services. Manages the official Division of Student Affairs social media channels. Manages the web presence for the Division of Student Affairs. Ensures that departments adhere to Tarleton’s branding and web policies and enforces federal, state, and University accessibility standards. Recruits, trains and retains student personnel to assist in these efforts. 30% Divisional Communication. Develops strategic division-wide communication practices and processes. Cultivates ongoing relationships with Tarleton State University Marketing and Communication (institutional level) and other division-based communication offices. Manages the official Division of Student Affairs email account. Writes, edits and distributes information via various communication channels (press releases, newsletters, reports, slides, etc.) at the discretion of the Vice President for Student Affairs for the Division of Student Affairs and its departments. Creates and facilitates crisis management communication for the Division of Student Affairs including developing communication plans, managing and monitoring social or emerging media, and internal communication notices for students, staff, and faculty. Maintains the divisional calendar of activities, media archives, social media, updated photos, calendars, and websites. May work with institutional Marketing and Communication to respond to media requests.20% Student Media. The department of Student Media guides student leaders in two areas: the university’s annual yearbook, The Grassburr, and the university’s student newspaper, The JTAC. Advises student leaders in communication efforts including news reporting, feature writing, story development, scripting, editing, photography, formatting and layout, production techniques and processes, marketing and advertising, business operations, and publication subscription and circulation. Recruits and trains student personnel for student media. 10% Business management. Supervises the management of all business-related functions. Manages the departmental budget. Manages payroll for full-time and student staff. Leads the auxiliary print service center, The Source.5% Other duties as needed or assigned.This document represents the major duties, responsibilities, and authorities of this job, and is not intended to be a complete list of all tasks and functions. Other duties may be assigned.Minimum RequirementsBachelor’s degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Ten years of related experience in communications including at least three years of related supervisory experience.

Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications.

Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others. Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Supervision of OthersThis position generally supervises employees.Preferred RequirementsBachelor’s degree in Journalism, English, Communication Studies, Marketing, or Digital Media preferred.

Experience working in publications, communication, marketing, newspaper, or yearbook operations preferred.

Knowledge of journalism and publishing standards, marketing and branding best practices, and video, web, and graphic communication programs preferred.

Project management experience preferred.

Knowledge of higher education, student development theory, and experience supervising student-based staff preferred.
