Research Assistant I - Texas Institute for Restorative Neurotechnologies (TIRN)Texas Medical Center-Houston, TexasHotResearchMcGovern Medical School at UTHealthRequisition #: 2100005TAs part of our new and expanding Texas Institute for Restorative Neurotechnologies (TIRN), at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth), we invite applications for a Research Assistant I.POSITION SUMMARY:Under close direction of senior research staff, conducts activities to support the development and testing of in-house imaging software.The candidate will assist with pre- and post-processing of human neuroimaging and electrophysiological data using computer-based software platforms. They will be required to organize/sort/label/summarize large patient datasets such as patient databases, demographics and labeling images.The candidateis expected to be highly motivated, a team player with a passion for computer software and patient health. Given the multiple unpredictable variables and privacy issues around data collection in human patients, the individuals must possess high ethical and professional standards. The candidates must be available to work over the spring semester.POSITION KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:Under close supervision, conducts activities according to research protocol. Activities may include some or all of the following: data entry, traditional laboratory activities, programming and informatics.

May maintain clean laboratory equipment and/or work area to ensure a safe and efficient work environment.

Evaluates and interprets research data to provide needed information to principal investigators and other researchers. Updates notebooks, records, and databases as needed.

Stays abreast of new and updated protocols for research department.

Complies with all governmental and University policies, rules, regulations, and codes.

Performs other duties as assigned.

CERTIFICATIONS/SKILLS:Undergraduate enrollmentin one or more of the following: computer science, engineering, neuroscience, mathematics, or cognitive science.Basic knowledge of UNIX-style shell scripting, Matlab, Microsoft Excel and computer-based statistical analyses.Some experience in analyzing neuroimaging and/or electrophysiological data is preferred, but not required.MINIMUM EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree in one of the basic sciences or relevant experience in lieu of education, or years of experience in lieu of education.
