Job Description:

Residency Requirements: Successful candidate must reside within a safe 30-minute drive of the respective service center located at the

VICTORIA SERVICE CENTER, in Victoria, TX,

within 3 months of the probationary period.


This single vacancy is posted in more than one job range for Transmission Line Mechanic C through A. Selection for job classification will be based on commensurate education and/or relevant experience. The description is written for intermediate C level and expectation increases for advanced levels of Transmission Line Mechanic B - A classifications.

Under direct supervision of a qualified person, perform all types of work involved in the installation, maintenance, rearrangement, operation, removal and inspection of de-energized electrical transmission and distribution facilities. This essential functions are not intended to limit assignment of work or the degree of supervision under all operating conditions. The following reference is provided as a guideline for persons responsible for directing the duties and responsibilities of assigned personnel, to assist in the safety and development of employees, and is not intended to limit assignment of work or the degree of supervision under all operating conditions: DIRECT SUPERVISION - When a qualified person is working with/hands-on with the person performing the designated task. IMMEDIATE SUPERVISION - When a qualified person is near the structure/equipment and is in constant visual and/or verbal contact to the person performing the designated task. GENERAL SUPERVISION - An employee of equal or higher classification, knowledgeable of the task at hand and not necessarily at the job site. QUALIFIED PERSON - Line Mechanic or Supervisor who is knowledgeable of the task or work to be performed, and is capable of performing the appropriate emergency rescue.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS are listed below:
1) Perform duties in accordance with the Company's safety rules, regulations and practices and report unsafe conditions and practices.

1. Report irregularities and abnormal conditions.
2. Patrol transmission lines using maps and drawings.
3. Use proper hand signals for line work as required
4. Perform all right-of-way control procedures in use of transmission lines

2) Install, maintain and repair overhead lines.

1. Dig holes for poles, towers and anchors.
2. Set poles, tower below-ground components, and guy anchorages.
3. Replace or stub poles, dead or energized.
4. Make up and install guys.
5. Assemble tower components on the ground and in the air.
6. Frame pole structures on the ground and in the air.
7. Perform all right-of-way control procedures in use of transmission lines.
8. Use proper methods to attach tools and materials to life ropes and cables, for installation or use in the air.
9. Test and support poles before climbing as required.
10. Operate miscellaneous transmission motor-driven tools.
11. Select and apply proper knots.
12. Perform rigging and tying off ropes.
13. Use proper hand signals for line work as required.

3) Under direct supervision of a qualified person, assist in the use of live line tools, bare-hand techniques, rubber gloves and sleeves, and other accepted work methods to maintain transmission lines.

1. Perform climbing maintenance on all transmission structures, except on cross-arms carrying energized conductors.

4) Make up conductor and shield wire splices, dead-ends and terminals.

1. Identify conductor types and sizes. 2. Set up reels for conductor installation. 3. Install conductors and shield wires

5) Maintain tools, equipment and work area in a clean and orderly fashion.

6) Assist employees of equal or higher classification.

7) Attend and participate in training as assigned and assist in the training of other employees.

8) Perform similar or less skilled work.

9) Maintain records and submit reports as required.

1. Properly prepare right-of-way items on field drawings

10) Operate automotive equipment and its associated equipment as authorized and directed by supervision.

1. Operate truck-mounted lifting/pulling devices. 2. Load and unload poles, steel and other materials.

Requirements
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
Education requirements are listed below:
  • High school graduate or GED
Work Experience requirement listed below:

Minimum of one year transmission electrical power line work experience, OR one year of related line experience

defined as : successful completion of a one year electrical power line school certificate plus a minimum of 16 weeks internship or transmission electrical power line experience, or an Associate degree from an electrical power line school which includes a minimum of 16 weeks internship or transmission electrical power line experience.

Licenses/Certifications: Valid Class A CDL is required

  • Amount of Weight to be Carried for 20 Feet - 60
  • Amount of Weight Lifted to Chest Level - 50
  • Amount of Weight Lifted to Eye Level - 30
  • Distance to Walk Accumulated over the Course of an 8-Hour Shift - 2 Miles
  • Distance in Feet to Climb and Work on a Ladder/Structure - 100 and Higher
  • Distance in Feet to Ascend to and Work in a Bucket/Lift - 150 and Higher (Tested at 60')
  • Ability to Discriminate between Colors Yes (Not Tested)
