This is a senior staff role on our Network Service Availability Engineering team. We provide a global, superior data network infrastructure for Charles Schwab & Co. supporting business units, subsidiaries, and external Vendors. The candidate will be expected to analyze data, aggregate information, drive down meantime to detection/resolution and maintain availability across all network technologies in our data centers while ensuring health and stability of the network infrastructure. Additionally, the candidate will actively participate in and provide consulting services for various project teams, corporate initiatives and partner connectivity across all disciplines of network engineering. This position requires a knowledgeable, enthusiastic, collaborative senior network engineer to develop, drive and support the service availability of the network infrastructure.

What you are good at

The candidate will have senior level experience on firewall technologies and expert level knowledge of Palo Alto and/or Juniper systems including analysis of various policies and traffic patterns in multi-data center environments. Subject matter expertise is required in analyzing traffic for route and policy based implementations, deployment using Panorama as well as debugging traffic through the firewall. Additional expertise is expected in the setup and tear down of VPN's, NAT translations and dynamic routing decisions for traffic flow. The candidate will need a strong network background with experience in dynamic routing and be able to work with and troubleshoot high available deployments and segmentation. The individual must be able to work effectively and productively with others, mentor junior associates as well as be comfortable working independently. While working closely with other engineering teams to ensure the network systems are built and follow Schwab standards for production deployment, monitoring and alerting, the selected individual will partner with key technology and business representatives to quickly isolate, resolve issues and provide the corrective action feedback restoring stability to the companies infrastructure. This position requires strong communication skills to lead and drive technical sessions in resolution of production outages, optimize the existing environment, and provide technical oversight regarding growth and supportability.

What you have

  • A minimum of 10+ years of network experience
  • 7+ years with senior level knowledge on Palo Alto and/or Juniper firewalls
  • Engineering/Deployment/Support/Skills and knowledge of Palo Alto/Juniper firewalls
  • Engineering/Deployment/Support/Skills and deployment of VPNs for 3rd party integrations
  • Experience with NSX, automation and orchestration for Palo Alto Virtual deployments and cloud environments
  • Understanding of Firewall IDS/IPS deployment and support
  • Routing/Switching background with strong understanding of L2 technologies, L3 Technology(BGP, EIGRP, OSPF), ACLs, WAN technologies,
  • Experience with the deployment/support of Cisco ACS/ISE in relation to 802.1x and Network authentication
  • Use of firewall attestation tools such as Firemon/Tufin/Skybox
  • Experience using network analysis tools for capturing, mapping, diagnosing and historical trending of network behavior
  • Strong organization, documentation and communication skills; ability to effectively lead discussions and drive direction for network issues with other technology groups
  • Ability to gather information, analyze events, aggregate data, drive direction and lead discussions for network issues with other technology groups
  • Experience working in a large enterprise environment with a keen focus around security, availability, resiliency and performance
  • Strong skills analyzing and troubleshooting complex network infrastructures and developing troubleshooting methodologies
  • Experience in an environment with deeply embedded Change/Incident and Problem management controls
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively on troubleshooting calls.
  • Self-motivated, solutions oriented and pro-active.
  • Palo Alto PCNSA and/or Juniper JNCIP-SEC certifications would be a plus
  • CCNA, CCNP or equivalent experience in a network route/switching environment
  • Experience with Load Balancing, DNS/DHCP, Windows and Unix/Linux Administration
  • Programming / Scripting background with knowledge of Python, REST API and PERL.
  • Automation / Orchestration experience in a networked environment is a plus
  • Experience troubleshooting with log aggregators or data analyzers like Splunk and/or Extrahop desired.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Visio and/or NetBrain for generating network diagrams.
  • Experience in the Financial Services industry is a plus
