The Data Governance Senior Manager will work closely with business partners across Schwab to define and implement Data Governance practices that deliver a better understanding of our data and improve its health from source through to consumption.

What you are good at

The Data Governance Senior Manager role is a key member of the Data Governance Enablement team and reports to the Director of Data Governance Enablement within Data Analytics and Insight's (DAIs) Data Center of Excellence.

This role is primarily responsible for defining, establishing, managing, and advancing key aspects of data governance practices. You will work closely with data stewards, consumers, and risk/compliance managers to build and execute on services or controls that result in trusted information for the firm.

You will
  • Execute on existing data governance services in order to meeting program objectives, standards and policy.
  • Identify and articulate opportunities to enhance and refine existing data governance services to achieve greater simplicity, scale, and value in alignment with the Firm's overall data governance vision and strategy.
  • Lead on areas of the growing portfolio of data governance capabilities beginning with the exploitation of existing data management tools, such as Informatica Enterprise Data Catalog (EDC), to establish a scalable and consumable data management service offerings.
  • Elicit support from both internal and external business partners on new data management opportunities by clearly articulating the expected outcomes that will drive value across the Firm.
  • Collaborate with business and technical teams in requirements collection and use case definition to achieve the development and successful implementation of new, repeatable data governance capabilities at scale.
  • Partner with Data Governance Training and Communications colleagues in order drive and monitor stakeholder adoption as new data governance capabilities are implemented.
  • Follow the standards of working for a Financial Services company and the regulatory demands that come with that.


What you have

  • Data Governance and Data Quality experience. An understanding and hands on engagement in the programmatic capture of business and technical metadata, data profiling, and data quality rules implementation in support of data policies and standards.
  • Data Lineage experience: evidence of having lead projects or worked with technologies that repeatably identify, record, and visualize data as it flows from data sources to key consumption points.
  • Strong data analysis skills and technical knowledge from experience with ETL software, BI tools, relational databases, modelling tools, metadata, stored procedure tools and/or data-warehouses.
  • Leadership skills: evidence of virtual team management or directing projects is essential for managing work to challenging targets and across matrixed deliver teams.
  • Data management skills: experience in working with the growing volumes of information and the ability to understand, research, translate and compile data.
  • Solid familiarity with data governance tools like Informatica EDC and IDQ, Collibra, and data visualization tools such as Tableau are a plus.
  • Experience across multiple agile scrum teams to pull together the comprehensive project plan using collaboration tools such as JIRA and Share point. Experience developing and delivering new capabilities through user stories, training, deployment plans and business change.
  • Strong critical thinking competency; the ability to carefully examine something, consider options, make good recommendations, seek the necessary approvals, and take appropriate actions.
  • An explorer mindset; someone who proactively ventures into unfamiliar areas in search of information.
  • A well-developed collaborative nature; the ability to work effectively with others toward commons goals, values effective relationships and partnering.
  • Versatility and learning agility; you are willing and able to adapt and support different functions across the team.
  • BA/BS (data orientation preferred); MBA and/or MS degree (Desirable). Strong relationship building abilities and partnership skills working with a variety of business and technical associates, and experience working in a highly virtualized environment with partners distributed in multiple locations. Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to quickly synthesize data and develop recommendations.
  • Strong problem-solving ability: both business and technical level. Proven ability as a self-starter, showing strong initiative.
  • Exposure to AI and machine learning capabilities are a nice to have.
  • Exposure to Cloud Services like GCS are a nice to have.
