Schwab is recruiting to hire a results-oriented and talented technologist with a strong track record of technology-enabled focus on availability. The Reference Data, Bank and Billing Technology (RDBBT) group provides Reference Data (Fundamental Data & Security Master), Bank and Corporate Billing capabilities to Schwab's Retail and Institutional businesses by developing innovative, unique-in-class investment products. We are currently looking for a talented technologist to lead the support, availability, and resilience of our mission critical Flexible Commission (FLEX) services. We are in the process of rapidly modernizing our FLEX platform and looking for a change agent who will thrive in influencing, challenging the status quo and, inspiring and collaborating with a team of highly motivated and talented technicians in meeting our business-driven technology objectives.

What you are good at

The FLEX Platform is maintained by the Billing Solutions Technology organization within RDBBT and is responsible for all of Schwab's Billing and invoicing operations, including commission fees. It is built across a disparate, bi-modal technology stack, encompassing mainframe (Cobol, DB2) and distributed (.Net, SQL, PCF), processing millions of dollars in revenue for Schwab across different lines of business.

As Site Reliability Engineer for Schwab's FLEX platform production support team, you will be responsible for ensuring the availability, performance, and resiliency of several critical large/complex applications across multiple technology stacks. Our ideal candidate will be passionate about automation, operational excellence, and process improvement and will work collaboratively with a centralized Site Reliability team to define and implement consistent SRE processes and tools.

  • Building or supporting applications in distributed environments (LINUX/Oracle/SQL Server/WebSphere) and will be familiar with all aspects of the Systems/Software Development Life Cycle
  • Creating scripts to automate operational tasks & incorporate the solutions into infrastructure
  • Triage alerts & diagnose/resolve critical issues, manage implementation of changes
  • Developing tools, frameworks, and instrumentation to validate and increase rollout success for applications.
  • Developing CI/CD orchestration systems to reduce friction for software delivery to production.
  • Real-Time troubleshooting of mission critical application workflows and incorporate feedback to product development.


What you have

  • 3+ years building or supporting applications in distributed environments (LINUX/Oracle/SQL Server/WebSphere) and will be familiar with all aspects of the Systems/Software Development Life Cycle
  • 3+ years of experience in writing automation scripts, building application dashboards for proactive monitoring, setting up Alerts for early determination of the issues
  • 3+ years of experience practicing SDLC (Software Development Lifecycle) practice, process improvements
  • Experience with enterprise batch scheduling, utilizing tools like Control-M and/or ESP
  • Hands on enterprise systems administration, monitoring, and deployment activities
  • Development experience in one or more or programming languages such as .Net, Powershell, Java, Python, Bash
  • Knowledge of one or more of SQL, NoSQL databases
  • Knowledge of one or more of Message Brokers such as Solace, RabbitMQ, IBM MQ
  • Working knowledge of Splunk, AppDynamics or similar monitoring/alerting tools
  • Good understanding of strategic and new and emerging technology trends, and the practical application of existing, new and emerging technologies to new and evolving business and operating models
  • Understanding of Agile methods and processes.
  • Bachelor's (BS) degree in Computer Science, system analysis or a related study, or equivalent experience

Helpful Skills:

  • Mainframe skills are a bonus
  • Financial services industry experience

Colorado Compensation

Target Total Compensation - $87,600 - $157,600 per year
