Located just outside Solvang, California, the Alisal Guest Ranch & Resort is a beautiful 10,500-acre luxury guest ranch that melds the spirit of the Old West with the seductive charms of today's most relaxing resorts.

We are looking for a full-time Equestrian Director to oversee all year-round operations of our Barn and Horseback riding program as well as the kid's Barnyard operation. This position requires hospitality/hotel experience and experience managing budgets over one million dollars.

The Equestrian Director oversees a 25+ person staff, including a Head Wrangler and a Herd Manager, and all aspects of the year-round operation including: budgeting, expenses, revenue generation, program development and quality control, managing capital projects, hiring/firing, the care and maintenance of the horses (120 head), tack and facilities to ensure all are prepared and up to Alisal standards to provide a safe and enjoyable horseback riding experience for Alisal guests. This position reports directly to the General Manager and works closely with Guest Services, the Front Desk, Sales/Marketing, Maintenance/Grounds, and the Recreation department.

This position also oversees the formal training of new employees ensuring they are able to lead enjoyable rides for guests while maintaining a safety-first mentality; Oversees the maintenance and upkeep of the Barn area, tack room, Barnyard, corrals, arena, pastures and trails as well as all tack and related equipment and machinery ensuring all is kept in a clean, tidy and safe condition; Assists in the preparation of the Barn department annual operations and capital budgets and stays within budget parameters; Resolves guest complaints and issues as needed; Ensures any guest-related accidents are properly documented and that upper management is aware of the incident.

Candidates should have at least five years related experience as a manager of barn or recreation operation and should have experience managing large budgets (upwards of $500,000-$1,000,000), guided trail riding and general ranch maintenance experience, or combination of education and experience. Must be familiar with P&L documents, Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook and the internet. Requires excellent customer service skills, strong written and verbal communication skills, and multitasking abilities.
