POSITION AVAILABLE: TRANSITION SPECIALIST
Supervisor: Director of Adult Education, Guadalupe School
Guadalupe School is a private non-profit which seeks to improve the lives of disadvantaged children and immigrant adults through education. The Adult Education Program utilizes community volunteers to provide small-group instruction in English as a Second Language to low-income immigrant adults.
Position: Transition Specialist (part-time, hourly)
Adult Education seeks a Transition Specialist to manage student goal-achievement in transitions to post-secondary education and training as well as work readiness and career pathways.
Qualifications:
Applicant must have Certificate in TESOL, BA or MA Applied Linguistics / TESOL.
Preferred areas of expertise: curriculum development; job readiness instruction for English Language Learners; job counseling.
Must have compassion and caring for low-income immigrant adults who are seeking to improve their lives through education.
Punctuality, dependability and organization are absolute musts!
Must enjoy teamwork and collaboration with colleagues.
Experience with very low-level learners of English strongly preferred.
Knowledge of materials development and language acquisition theory is an asset.
Some proficiency in Spanish a plus.
Certification in administration of Basic English Skills Test (BEST) very helpful.
Responsibilities include:
Maintain and foster relationships with collaborating partners in vocational training and job placement (DWS, Vocational Rehab, SLCC, Horizonte, etc…)
Counseling students on vocational and academic pathways
Assist teaching staff on language instruction for specific vocational or academic purposes.
Survey both current and former students regarding goal achievement.
With assistance and training from DWS, teach students to use www.jobs.utah.gov
Assist in monitoring students’ progress via standardized assessment tools.
Complete administrative tasks.
Attend staff meetings and participate in professional development opportunities.
Assist as needed with additional student services.
Hours: 8 hours / week during summer; 15 hours / week during academic year. Schedule completely flexible, but must include both some daytime and evening availability. $18.50 per hour.
