Montpelier Elks Country Club is recruiting for the position of Pro Shop Manager (PSM) for the 2019 golf season (late April through October, depending on weather). The PSM is a salaried position paying $600 a week during the season. The PSM also has a budget to hire assistant staff.

Great customer service skills essential. Interest and background in golf, prior experience in retail operations and aptitude for basic bookkeeping required. Computer skills with spreadsheets and financials and experience running tournaments a plus. Ability to cultivate existing relationships with area businesses and other golf clubs important.

The Pro Shop manager runs his/her own golf merchandise business in the Pro Shop and retains the risk and profits of that operation as well.

PRO SHOP MANAGER

Job Description

Managerial and supervisory position responsible for the operation of the Pro Shop at the Montpelier Elks Country Club ("MECC") during the (approximate) thirty (30) week golf season.

Seasonal salaried position. Typically works a 50 to 60 hour work week, April through end of October. Hours may be non-consecutive. Compensation includes full golf membership to MECC.

Reports to Chair, Golf Committee, MECC.

Major Duties

MECC's goodwill ambassador to MECC membership, public, other clubs/courses and therefore strong interpersonal and customer service skills are required. Maintains regular contact with pro shop customers and reports any customer concerns or comments to the golf committee chair. Solves disputes with customers and conducts himself/herself in a respectful, patient and open-minded manner.

Hires, schedules, trains, and manages pro shop staff members and volunteers on an as needed basis. Works with webmaster to update and maintain MECC website as necessary.

Develops membership and prospect database. Develops and promotes innovative ways to increase the club's golf membership and greens fee sales. Periodically sends email updates on special promotional events and submits new email addresses to webmaster.

Works with Golf Committee to organize and run all MECC tournaments and special events. Works with the golf committee to establish fees and prizes for each tournament and provides the golf committee with detailed financial reports of each tournament within 10 days to two weeks of the event.

Works with the golf committee on establishing the events schedule and any subsequent modifications to the established schedule as deemed necessary by the manager and/or golf committee.

Oversees marketing, promotion and advertising efforts for MECC.

Knowledge of the Central VT Business Community is preferred. Maintains existing business relationships with Tee and Non-Member Tournament Sponsors while developing new business relationships/partnerships for the club.

Coordinates and supports non-MECC Tournaments.

Responsible for all day to day financial accounting relating to Pro Shop, including greens fees receipts, memberships, donations, purchases and cart rentals and provides a monthly accounting to the Golf Committee Chair. Computer skills are necessary for the position, along with a strong math background.

It is preferred the pro shop manager have retail sales experience, managerial experience and/or some education in a field related to retail sales or the golf industry.

Shall have 2 days off per week. If days off are to be the same each week, this may be written into this agreement (i.e. Pro Shop Manager will have Mondays and Thursdays off each week). Should a weekend day need to be used as a day off, it should not coincide with a scheduled tournament. Should consecutive days off be needed, approval will be by the Golf Committee Chair.

Develops/maintains systems to account for pro shop credit, greens fee passes, etc. Establishes reciprocal golf agreements with other clubs/courses

Organizes and oversees youth golf orientation programs and other activities

Works cooperatively with Golf Course Superintendent and grounds crew Attends golf committee meetings as requested

Other duties as assigned by Golf Committee

Can participate in men's/ladies league play

Pro Shop Manager shall not participate in any MECC tournament or non-MECC tournament that includes pro shop credit as prizes

Must have a valid driver's license.

Operation of Pro Shop

The Pro Shop Manager shall run the retail operation of the Pro Shop as independent business. The Pro Shop Manager will be responsible for the purchase and sale of appropriate items (e.g., golf balls, gloves, clubs, bags and other equipment, golf apparel, etc.) in the Pro Shop; he/she shall assume full financial responsibility for this business operation, including payment of any and all sales tax due.
