The Shared Services team includes colleagues who focus on business and network development, legal services, facilities and real estate, human resources, information technology, finance, philanthropy and marketing and communications.About the Job Position Summary: The Director of Strategic Planning and Business Development (DSPBD) reports to and assists the VP of Planning and Program Development (VPPPD) on matters that further the mission of the Beth Israel Lahey Health system (BILH). The DSPBD has a role in developing Beth Israel Lahey Health (BILH) as a high-value, integrated health system fully compliant with established governmental regulations and private payor standards.The nature of the work in Strategic Planning and Business Development is market focused and project-oriented in support of BILH, including academic medical center, teaching and community hospitals; quaternary, tertiary and community acute care; home care, palliative and hospice; behavioral health; and, physician development. Responsibilities fall into three broad categories: opportunities identification and assessment, business plan development, and program development.It is the responsibility of the DSPBD to ensure thoughtful identification and analysis of competitive opportunities, as well as to ensure the quality and timeliness of all work products generated by the department. It is the responsibility of the DSPBD to complete the associated analysis in cooperation with other departments within BILH and local entities, as required (e.g. operations, medical staff, and finance).To be successful in this position, an individual will be: thoughtful and creative in their approach to issue/opportunity identification and definition; creative in defining the required information and collecting market intelligence to draw conclusions; rigorous, thorough and timely in completing analysis; confident in presenting alternatives and articulate in communicating intended results and potential risks. The DSPBD collaborates with other leaders at BILH to promote the principles of consumerism, physician engagement, and patient- and family-centered care.The DSPBD plays a consultative role within the Office of Strategy and Business Department at BILH. The DSPBD will lead projects and sometimes support the VPPPD, SVP of Strategic Planning and Business Development (SVPSPBD), BILH system-wide service line leadership, hospital Presidents, CMOs, and/or others, as required. As both an individual contributor and a leader, this individual plays a dynamic role with access to multiple disciplines, levels of leadership, and varied subjects.Essential Duties & Responsibilities including but not limited to:

Identifies new business opportunities, models and relationships for BILH and/or HMFP.

Conducts analyses and evaluations of strategic, financial, and operational issues related to the Business Planning process.

Evaluates overall fit of business development efforts within the context of BILH strategic direction.

Coordinates efforts in areas to assess and finalize business development efforts, such as financial/accounting, due diligence, legal, reimbursement, regulatory and compliance, information technology and other areas, as needed.

As requested by system executive and hospital senior leadership, leads and/or participates in the organization, management, and implementation of clinical and administrative projects that require broad institutional support and input from multiple stakeholders.

Assists system executives, hospital senior leadership, and physician leadership in making informed decisions.

Conducts quantitative and qualitative analysis of BILH and BILH entity market positions, competitive analyses, and evaluate changes in local, regional and national healthcare trends to help position BILH and BILH entities to achieve strategic goals.

Works in collaboration with Communications and Marketing teams to develop and communicate BILH and BILH entity business opportunities, strategies and activities.

Participates in the development and refinement of new/existing clinical program business plans for BILH and BILH entities in areas that define and differentiate BILH programs and services in the market.

Prepares and presents business opportunities to the senior leadership team and others.

Builds credibility and relationships with BILH entity leadership and physicians. Establishes forums for regular, formal strategic planning with BILH entity leadership.

Has the authority to direct and support daily work activities. Has the direct responsibility to undertake the following employment actions: corrective action and performance reviews.

Minimum Qualifications: Education: A Master’s degree in Business, Public Health or equivalent such as finance, healthcare management and policy required. Licensure, Certification, Registration: None required.Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:

Strong project management experience, managing complex, multi-stakeholder analytics, consensus-building, and decision -making.

Advanced interpersonal skills coupled with excellent presentation and communication skills essential for effectively managing complex matters with tact while persuasively representing Beth Israel Lahey Health internally and externally.

Demonstrated ability to connect concepts to outcomes; results driven.

Deep knowledge of strategic planning processes and business development formulation.

Ability to think ahead and plan over a 5-year span

Ability to lead and effectively manage work teams resulting in the accomplishment of strategic program goals in a highly collaborative environment.

Ability to understand the diverse, but interrelated activities of organizations.

Articulate in verbal and written communication; demonstrated ability to define and communicate effectively to a variety of audiences, appropriately tailoring the messages to the audience.

Demonstrated ability to build and effectively manage a wide-range of internal and external relationships and to achieve results leading others toward common objectives. Ability to work successfully with executives and managers of industry and healthcare organizations and providers. Ability to work successfully with physicians and healthcare professionals.

Demonstrates effective managerial skills, objective judgments, self-discipline and motivation.

Able to function effectively with a wide variety of hospital disciplines, including physicians and management.

Understands the regulatory, quality and financial components of the healthcare industry. Possesses knowledge of the local and regional market place, current trends and an understanding of current marketplace dynamics.

Demonstrated knowledge of Human Resource policies and issues.

Skills in analysis, problem solving, negotiating and conflict resolution.
