Position DescriptionRobotics GNC Engineer IIILocation Burlington, MAEmployment type Regular - Full TimeID 723We are currently seeking a Robotics GNC Engineer III to join our team.As a Robotics GNC Engineer III you will support the development, simulation, testing, analysis and product support for systems and sub-systems on AeroVironment’s growing family of unmanned robotics systems. The ideal candidate will be versed in linear and non-linear control methodologies, digital estimation and filtering techniques, and be comfortable working in simulation, hardware-in-the-loop and free-roam environments. This position will require close interaction with team members across many technical disciplines and thus excellent written and verbal communication skills is essential for this position.Job Duties and Responsibilities
Document designs and analyses with written reports, presentations, and Engineering drawings
Characterize, analyze, test, and troubleshoot control system hardware and software subsystems
Develop and maintain tools to perform robot test data reduction and analysis
Perform linearization of nonlinear models, and linear and non-linear controls analysis and algorithm design for stability, robustness, and performance
Analyze systems and flight test data to support model improvements and root cause investigation of failures and anomalies
Participate in GN&C-related design requirements development and design reviews
Help develop and maintain reusable software and GN&C design components and integrate into new designs
Document designs and analyses with written reports, presentations, and Engineering drawings
Characterize, analyze, test, and troubleshoot control system hardware and software subsystems
Develop and maintain tools to perform flight test data reduction and analysis
Perform linearization of nonlinear models, and linear controls analysis and algorithm design for stability, robustness, and performance
Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications & Background
US Citizenship or Permanent Resident (Green Card) required due to ITAR
Bachelor's degree in a Guidance, Navigation & Control (GNC) related Engineering field.
Minimum 5 - 8 years relevant experience or equivalent progressive technical capacity in GNC and adjacent fields
Understanding of frequency domain and state space representations of dynamic systems
Understanding of linear controls design and analysis tools and techniques
Understanding of robotic dynamics and control concepts
Understanding of basic aircraft and helicopter flight dynamics a plus
Familiarity with aided inertial navigation systems concepts and techniques
Understanding of classical and modern controls design and analysis approaches
Familiar with Monte Carlo, hardware-in-the-loop, and/or 6DOF simulation environments
Experienced with MATLAB, familiar with Simulink
Capable in C; Demonstrated understanding and competence in object-oriented design
