Summary Description
The Quality Assurance Manager is responsible for leading the quality assurance program at the respective Appalachian Railcar Services, LLC facility.
The Quality Assurance Manager implements and maintains processes in accordance with the Appalachian Railcar Services, LLC Quality Policies and Procedures, Association of American Railroads ( AAR ), Manual of Standards and Recommended Practices, Specification for Quality, and related AAR rules and technical standards.
The Quality Assurance Manager is also accountable for achieving targets established for customer satisfaction and profitability by improving quality and service delivery.
The Quality Assurance Manager is responsible for creating, reviewing, analyzing, accepting or rejecting, as applicable, reports for nonconformance data with a focus for continuous improvement.
The Quality Assurance Manager must participate in AAR, FRA, Customer or Internal Quality Assurance facility audits and certification events
Duties & Responsibilities
Manages, mentors, coaches, and trains employees
Leads improvement initiatives
Leads Quality Team communication
Ensures implementation, oversight, and management of the Quality Assurance Program on a site level basis
Leads customer visits & audits
Manages internal / external audits
Evaluates quality workload demands to determine adequate resource allocation to support facility Quality Assurance
Serves as Change Management Leader
Analyzes process nonconformance data
Leads and participates in continuous improvement opportunities
Supervises and coordinates activities for Inspections
Ensures adherence to ARS safety policies and procedures
Recommends promotions and other personnel changes; conducts performance reviews
Contributes to the overall performance from the standpoints of safety, quality, profitability
Manages in process inspection and final inspection audits to ensure compliance with quality program
Facilitates root cause and corrective action processes with cross-functional operations team
Ensure all required customer regulatory and ARS standards, specifications and instruction are maintained
Evaluates and coordinates with the Functional Leaders the operational and quality training needs
Performs other duties as required
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
Proficient in computer software applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook and other applications
Ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships
Foster teamwork with proven leadership skills
Excellent oral communication skills
Ability to organize and prioritize tasks
Physical Demands & Work Environment
With the exception of clerical, administrative, and some management positions, which require indoor work, the physical environment requires the employee to work both inside and outside in heat / cold, wet / humid, dry / arid and dusty conditions.
The environment requires working in close proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, in high and low precarious places, as well as in confined spaces.
The work type is best described as heavy, hands-on mechanical work. Work is very physical, and without proper work planning can result in out of position pushing, pulling and lifting.
Proper body mechanics, positioning and lifting techniques can be very important. Employees are urged to seek help when needed with heavier tasks, and to use lifting equipment when and where necessary.
The positioning of the work being performed can change very frequently.
Various heavier air and electric powered tools such as car jacks, impact wrenches, and grinders are used daily. Work also requires frequent use of hand wrenches, hammers, chisels, socket wrenches, and ladders.
Cutting torches are also used, with welding equipment used upon qualification of employee.
Climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing, smelling and visual acuity, with color and depth perception
