Saunders Brothers is a wholesale nursery and orchard operation in central Virginia. Saunders Brothers is looking for someone to be our Farm Equipment Maintenance Supervisor. The Equipment Maintenance Supervisor will oversee the operation, maintenance, and repair of all tractors, farm equipment, trailers (on and off road), vehicles, trucks, and road tractors. This person will also oversee all metal fabrication at the Saunders Brothers Harewood Shop.

Duties:

Will supervise and assist in the maintenance of all tractors, sprayers, wagons, trailers, forklifts, uni-loaders, and utility vehicles.

Will supervise all operations and any employees working at the Saunders Brothers Harewood Shop. (May include up to 10 employees during the busy maintenance season)

Will manage all metal fabrication and repair at the Saunders Brothers Harewood Shop.

Will oversee the ordering of all parts for farm equipment needing repair.

Will assist with all vehicle maintenance and repair of vehicles at Tye Brook Farm.

Will oversee the maintenance and operation of fruit packing equipment, conveyors, and other equipment in conjunction with other maintenance supervisors.

Will maintain inventory of farm equipment parts, shop tools, and keep them in proper working condition.

Will oversee the maintenance and repair of all road tractors, dry vans, and reefers and be able to assist drivers in repairs as needed and after hours.

Must be able to weld for fabrication and repair of equipment.

Must be able to lift 100 lbs. and be able spend at least 8 hours per day standing. In addition, must be able to stoop, bend, kneel, squat, and twist around for at least 8 hours per day. Must be able to work outside in all types of weather.

Must be able to use shop tools including various wrenches, shop hand tools, shop power tools, and be physically able to perform other repair or maintenance tasks.

Must be willing to work cooperatively with other members of the equipment maintenance team.

Must be willing to perform other duties as needed.

Qualifications

Must have a high school diploma or equivalent GED and a minimum of 3 years’ experience in vehicle or farm equipment repair and maintenance.

Must have a valid driver’s license and must provide a copy of driving record (DMV) at time of application.

Must be approved to drive by the Saunders Brothers insurance carrier.

Must have good math skills.

Must be willing to work Saturdays during peak season and other times as timely repairs are needed.

Must have excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and communication skills.

Must be able to handle several tasks at the same time, prioritize workload, and have flexibility as work demands change.

Must be willing to work after hours as workload and seasons dictate.

Must have a strong work ethic and integrity, be a team player, and have the willingness to learn and adapt.

Must be willing to work with Spanish-speaking workers and be open to learning Spanish.

Must have good communication and listening skills and be able to effectively work with entire staff at Saunders Brothers.

Start Date: As soon as a qualified candidate is identified.

Supervisor: This position will answer directly to the Saunders Brothers Management.

Hours: Monday through Friday 7:30 AM to 5:00 PM with a one hour for lunch. Must be willing to work additional hours as workload dictates. Will be required to work some Saturdays and after hours as breakdowns or timely repairs are needed. This is a full-time year-round position.
