We are looking for someone with a passion for pets and preferably experience working with animals who is available to work as an independent contractor for our company performing pet sitting and dog walking for our clients. As an independent contractor, you will receive a 1099 to complete your taxes at the end of the year. You must own a reliable vehicle and a smart phone. You must be able to work independently, follow instructions explicitly and be comfortable using an online software system and phone app to complete your duties. All considered applicants must submit to a background check and you must live in Williamsburg or James City County.
You must be comfortable and able to leave feedback for each client after every visit using our online pet sitting software system and using the corresponding app that you download to your smartphone. You must be able to communicate effectively with clients and be able to solve problems that arise using your best judgment when not able to contact client or manager.
As a pet sitter, you will be required to care for clients' pets and homes while they are away on vacation. We need someone who will be available to work weekends, weekdays and holidays, which may include very early mornings, daytime and nights. You must be able to walk in all weather conditions (heat, rain and cold). You must be physically able to bend over or crouch frequently to change kitty litter, pick up poop and play with pets. You must be able to lift large bags of litter and cat/dog food when necessary. You must be able to lift and handle pets, sometimes large ones, and be knowledgeable in the proper way to do so. You must be comfortable and knowledgeable in animal behavior and be able to react appropriately to the different dispositions and behaviors of all animals, specifically cats and dogs. Occasionally you may be required to administer medications so you must be knowledgeable and comfortable doing so with both cats and dogs as directed by our clients. Also involved is care for the client's home and belongings as directed by our clients, to include cleaning up pet messes, watering plants, mail, package and newspaper retrieval, trash removal, etc.
This job is not for the average animal lover. We all love dogs and cats, but you really have to have a passion to perform some of the duties that a pet sitter performs and work the hours that they work. However, if you are an animal lover, this can be a very rewarding job. There is nothing like being greeted at each and every job with lots of sloppy kisses!
This job has no guarantees on how much work you will receive. The ideal applicant is someone who is available to work as much or as little as necessary. It can be feast or famine in this field. Weekends tend to be busier than weekdays. Holidays are the busiest times. We would like the applicant to be comfortable working closely with their fellow pet sitters to coordinate working together and working out a schedule between you all that works best. Communication is key. Compensation is paid as a percentage per job performed. Please submit a cover letter with your application and resume.
