SummaryAbout the Position: You will serve as a Safety & Occupational Health Specialist in providing assistance with the planning, development, and direction of the Norfolk District's Safety and Occupational Health Program. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which include 1) Experience evaluating operational work processes and procedures to ensure compliance with established safety and occupational health policies, regulations, and standards; 2) Experience reviewing project designs, plans and specifications prepared by Architect and Engineering contractors to ensure compliance with safety regulations; 3) Experience in the implementation of an industrial hygiene program; 4) Experience investigating reported accidents, injuries, and mishaps/near misses during daily operations; AND 5) Experience evaluating work practices and physical conditions to minimize mishaps. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas:Mishap/Accident InvestigationOral CommunicationSafety and HealthSafety Engineering Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience aloneno substitution of education for experience is permitted.EducationAdditional InformationMale applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. Two year trial/probationary period may be required. Direct deposit of pay is required.
