The General Maintenance Worker is responsible for performing highly diversified duties including cleaning, setting up, closing and maintaining facility to support the achievement of business goals and objectives. Performs basic activities related to maintenance and upkeep of building, grounds, and vehicles of Help and Emergency Response, Inc. This is a temporary position through September 30, 2020.

II. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

1) Conducts job responsibilities in accordance with the standards set out in the HER Code of Conduct, its policies and procedures, applicable federal and state laws, and professional standards.

2) Performs routine maintenance and repair required to keep the building and equipment in good working order.

3) Completes work orders in a prompt and efficient manner.

4) Works closely with the Office Manager, Crisis Services & Shelter Manager, and Program Director to ensure needed items are scheduled and completed on time.

5) Maintains and repairs HVAC systems, refrigerators, washers and dryers, and other equipment.

6) Participates in painting, flooring, carpentry, tile and general updating projects.

7) Repairs doors and door hardware, automatic door operators, and access control systems.

8) Maintains facility PM logs including generators, HVAC systems and filter changes, emergency light testing, access control equipment, station checks and others. Maintains the perimeter of the building and addresses needs such as gutters, windows, screens, etc.

9) Moves beds, mattresses, and assist with other furniture moves as requested.

10) Coordinates and assists with volunteers and groups that include maintenance or grounds.

11) Maintains property by cutting grass, trimming, and other general landscape upkeep.

12) Performs other tasks as assigned.

13) Must be available for on call hours based on emergency needs.

14) Must assist with emergency weather plans.

15) Adheres to all policies, procedures and protocols related to operating an Essential Business.

16) Maintains a professional and sensitive attitude, which reflects the philosophy of the H.E.R. Shelter.

III. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES)

Must have a valid driver’s license, good driving record, and ability to pass a background check.

Education and/or Experience: High School diploma or equivalent required. Minimum one-year experience in building maintenance preferred. One-year of HVAC and/or electrical experience preferred.

Physical Demands and Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk, hear, and to use hands to finger, handle or feel. The employee is frequently required to operate a motor vehicle. The employee is frequently required to walk and to reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
