Job Description:

The Mainframe Communication Server System Engineer p articipates in design, development and implementation of systems engineering activities, to include OS technical support, systems programming and data center capabilities and is responsible for components of complex engineering and/or analytical tasks and activities.

Assists in establishment of input/output processes and working parameters for hardware compatibility and coordination of subsystems design and integration of total system. Serves as a fully seasoned/proficient technical resource; provides tech knowledge and capabilities as team member and individual contributor.

Assists in problem solving, tuning and network resiliency designs, including mainframe tracing and sniffer analysis. Supports and implements the mainframe network within z/OS, z/VM and Linux on z Series environments.

Participates in technical support, systems programming and data center capabilities. Develops technical solution requirements and lead individual or small team initiatives.

Required Job Skills:

  • 5 - 7 years in support and/or implementation of mainframe network engineering activities within z/OS, z/VM and Linux on z Series environments.
  • Possess networking, problem solving and protocol skills, have an understanding of Mainframe communication concepts, and be able to support mainframe connectivity design considerations.
  • Knowledge in Assembler, REXX, and/or SAS programming.
  • Knowledge of encryption technologies and Certificate management.
  • Knowledge in Netview configurations and Clist coding.
  • Knowledge of IBM zEnterprise server hardware and working knowledge of TCP, UDP, ICMP communications.


Desired Job Skills:
  • Information Technology degree and/or technology certifications preferred or substantial equivalent experience.
  • Good written and verbal communications skills
