Duties may be both administrative and clinical:

Clinical

The Assistant/Technician will help the optometrist by taking detailed patient histories with electronic medical records, conducting diagnostic tests, recording and measuring vision, testing eye function, preparing examination rooms, cleaning and arranging equipment. Assist patient in frame selection and instruct patient in care and use of glasses. May instruct patient in care of contact lenses.

Administrative

The Assistant/Technician should be able to answer multi-line phone system professionally, schedule appointments, check-in patients recording demographic information and verify patient insurance coverage, handle patient calls, check-out patients and collect payments. Maintain records, performs bookkeeping. Will have daily duties in keeping all areas of the office clean. This is a partial listing and actual duties may vary based upon need.

Required Skills

The Assistant/Technician should conduct themselves in a professional manner and will benefit from having strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills. You may be charged with multiple tasks in different areas at the same time and thus should also be a good multi-tasker who is able to work independently without immediate supervision while being a team-player with a positive outlook.

Job Requirements

Educational experiences (High School diploma or equivalent; or prior work experience, or being a Certified Paraoptometric Assistant). One year optical experience preferred, however the office is willing to train the right candidate. The office does utilize computerized technical equipment and electronic media records (EMR), thus, the candidate would be adept at utilizing such devices.

Required Experience

Math ability - Ability to calculate figures in taking payments and amounts such as discounts. Ability to apply concepts of basic math.

Reasoning ability - Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exist. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

Computer skills - To perform this job successfully an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Word Processing software; helpful in knowledge of electronic medical records.
