Job Description

We are looking for a Sr. Field Safety Officer with a background in Vegetation Management to ensure everyone in the company complies with health and safety laws/standards. You will be responsible for enhancing existing policies and ensuring compliance within the operations organization. You daily responsibility will be in the field ensuring all crews are trained in all safety procedures, adhere to safety standards, maintain a high level of safety compliance and align with our safety culture. You will be a Safety evangelist for the company ensuring our mission of safety is understood by everyone. You will work in different terrains, around different equipment, and road conditions. Your attention to your surroundings and observing others is a key element in the successful performance of this job.

As a Sr. Field Safety Officer you must have excellent attention to detail to identify hazards. You will also be able to discover opportunities for improving conditions and execute various safety programs. The ability to communicate guidelines to a multidisciplinary workforce is essential. This includes working hand in hand with Crew Foremen to train them to observe, motivate, investigate, conduct safety visits, and train field personnel that are working on their job site and be committed to our culture of "Safety First" is "Safety Always"

The goal is to ensure the workplace meets all legal expectations and actively supports occupational health and safety. You are accountable for driving the company's safety management program, training schedules, weekly monthly and Quarterly management/supervisory meetings/safety calls. You are the resident expert in working in conjunction with the leadership team in all incidents, accidents, injuries, resolutions, and best practices. This includes working with our insurance partners, establish a working relationship with local physicians, providing doctors with job descriptions for modified duty, surveillance, and the return to work status pertaining to injured workers.

Responsibilities

Develop and execute health and safety plans in the workplace according to legal guidelines (safety manual).

Prepare and enforce policies to establish a culture of health and safety

Evaluate practices, procedures and facilities to assess risk and adherence to the law

Conduct training and presentations for health and safety matters and accident prevention

Monitor compliance to policies and laws by inspecting employees and operations

Inspect equipment and machinery to observe possible unsafe conditions

Investigate accidents or incidents to discover causes and handle worker's compensation claims

Assure injuries are properly classified according to O.S.H.A. rules.

Recommend solutions to issues, improvement opportunities or new prevention measures

Report on health and safety awareness, issues and statistics

Requirements

Requires frequent regional travel in Mid-Atlantic States and working on-site with work crews to conduct training and investigations.

Proven experience as safety office preferably in Forestry/Vegetation Management/Utility Line Clearance and/or Tree Trimming

Deep understanding of legal health and safety guidelines

Ability in producing reports and developing relevant policies

Good knowledge of data analysis and risk assessment

Excellent organizational and motivational skills

Uniformity and implementation of the company's disciplinary policy

How to conduct a thorough safety visit

Safety Team evaluations.

General Foreman evaluations.

Crew Foreperson evaluations.

Verification of required documentation

Outstanding attention to detail and observation ability

Exceptional communication and interpersonal abilities

BS/BA in safety management or relevant field experience is preferred

Able to lift up to 50 pounds

Valid qualification in occupational health and safety with specific certifications in Z133 standards as well as OSHA, VOSH and MOSH tree trimming specific standards, would be preferred.
