The Boeing Company is looking for a Software Continuous Improvement Technical Lead to join the Office of Continuous Improvement in the Engineering, Test, and Technology (ET&T) organization in Seattle, WA; Auburn, WA; Bellevue, WA; Everett, WA; Tukwila, WA; Kent, WA; Renton, WA; Edwards AFB, CA; Salt Lake City, UT; Portland, OR.

The Office of Continuous Improvement in the Engineering, Test, and Technology (ET&T) organization looks to provide technical leadership and expertise within Boeing's Enterprise Software Systems Engineering, Integration and Test (SEIT) organization, which is leading an Enterprise level effort to revolutionize software development processes and products at Boeing.

As a member of the Continuous Improvement team, you will be involved in improving the software developer experience throughout the entire software development lifecycle, from idea creation, budgeting and planning, development, all the way through to deployment and support of the architectures and products produced by engineers. This position will place you in a role where you have the opportunity to make significant impact on software teams across Boeing.

You will help shape the future of software engineering at Boeing by providing technical leadership, engineering judgment, and software development expertise to continuous improvement projects that impact Boeing Software Engineering. You will serve as an internal developer advocate, informing policies and procedures that best represent the needs of our software engineers. Your impact to the developer community will include culture change, innovation, and empowerment with focus on enabling open source contributions and adoption of industry-standard tools and processes. You will work in a dynamic, collaborative environment to gather improvement needs and ideas from software developers across the enterprise, enable those improvements, and facilitate the adoption of those improvements by other Boeing teams. You will be responsible for developing and growing the Developer Relations team to support successful continuous improvement across the Enterprise SW organization and ultimately help promote positive change throughout software engineering at Boeing. You will have the opportunity to learn from and lead others while driving quality, efficiency, safety, and security into Boeing's software products and processes.

Up to 10% travel may be required.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical expertise and leadership to Continuous Improvement projects for Boeing Software Engineering
  • Integrate industry-standard tools and processes to Boeing software engineering
  • Improve end-to-end business processes to adapt to the needs of the software engineering body
  • Interface with a variety of software engineering representatives, analyze feedback, design and implement improvements
  • Promote a diverse and inclusive work environment
  • Remove hurdles and roadblocks for software engineers
  • Define technical approaches, evaluations, products, and processes to benefit developers
  • Interface with teams across the Enterprise to develop and leverage improvements


This position allows telecommuting. The selected candidate will be required to perform some work onsite at one of the listed location options.

The position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a "US Person" as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. "US Person" includes , lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
  • Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry
  • 2+ years of experience working/partnering with engineers, product owners, leadership


Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
  • Experience with open source software
  • Experience working as a developer advocate


Typical Education/Experience:

Bachelor's degree and typically 9 or more years' experience in an engineering classification or a Master's degree with typically 7 or more years' experience in an engineering classification or a PhD degree with typically 4 or more years' experience in an engineering classification.

Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
