Boeing Commercial Airplanes is seeking a Mid-Career Flight Control Electronics Engineer to support the BCA team in Everett, Washington.

Boeing Commercial Airplanes (BCA) - Flight Controls is seeking digital design, verification, and implementation engineers in our Design Center with experience in state-of-the-art algorithm and firmware design and implementation for sensing systems. The candidate will be expected to review and evaluate the design and simulation of algorithm performance and then convert the algorithms into hardware systems for test and verification. The candidate will be responsible to show the certification compliance of the AEH devices to the authority agencies.

Specifically, targeted technical skills include: digital signals processing for sensing applications; embedded software development; algorithm design and simulation; FPGA implementation with VHDL; and familiarity with MATLAB and Simulink.

The selected individuals will work within the BCA Flight Controls team and interface with suppliers and internal Boeing organizations to support flight controls Hardware and Firmware Development.

This position allows telecommuting. The selected candidate will be required to perform some work onsite in Everett, WA.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop and verification of airborne electronic hardware devices for Flight Controls System
  • Provide either showing of compliance or finding of compliance roles in accordance with FAA regulations associated with AEH development
  • Provide technical guidance to the suppliers to assure the quality and integrity of the contractual requirements (quality, delivery, cost, technical, safety, communication, etc.)
  • Support FAA and EASA audits and design reviews
  • Evaluate risks and opportunities; assist suppliers in implementing risk mitigation plans
  • Review and approve supplier's HW and FW development and verification, and Application Specific Integrated Circuits (ASIC), and Field Programmable Gate Arrays and Programmable (FPGA) design
  • Recent experience with HW and FW development and verification, and Application Specific Integrated Circuits (ASIC), and Field Programmable Gate Arrays and Programmable (FPGA) design
  • Mentoring of early career engineers
  • Candidate must be able to thrive in working within a fast-paced environment and work collaboratively with EUMs and suppliers


This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a "US Person" as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. "US Person" includes , lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
  • 5+ years of experience in development of Application Specific Integrated Circuits (ASIC), and Field Programmable Gate Arrays and Programmable (FPGA)
  • Bachelor degree or higher in electrical engineering, computer science, or related engineering disciplines.
  • Knowledge of ASIC/FPGA development and technology including architectural definition, detailed design implementation and functional verification
  • Familiar with system engineering validation and verification process for DAL A or LOR 1 boxes.
  • Familiarity and depth understanding of RTCA/DO-254. VALIDAT


Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
  • Thorough understanding of the relationship between complex electronics aspects of certification, system development assurance (e.g. ARP 4754A), and the safety assessment process.
  • Experience working with authority agencies (DOD, FAA, TCCA, EASA)
  • Experience deriving digital ASIC/FPGA requirements specification from higher-level (system or board-level) requirements specifications.


Typical Education/Experience:
  • Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 5 or more years' related work experience or n equivalent combination of technical education and experience related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
