The Boeing Company is looking for a Mid-Level Flight Control Systems Integration and Safety Engineer to support BCA team. This position is located in Everett, Washington.

This position allows telecommuting. The selected candidate will be required to perform some work onsite at one of the listed location options.

Position Responsibilities:

  • This requisition is seeking accomplished, self-motivated mid-career engineers to design, analyze, test and certify flight control systems and components for large commercial aircraft as well as to support the production and fleet operations of this equipment. This requisition is for multiple positions in multiple flight control disciplines performing many of the tasks listed below.
  • Resolve airplane level requirements into system level requirements and resolve system level requirements into component requirements with time and cost efficient validation methods.
  • Develop system and subsystem architecture alternatives to meet requirements and objectives.
  • Analyze and compare alternatives (trade study) to rapidly converge on preferred configurations including defining and executing system simulations and development test programs.
  • Participate in and lead system, component and detail design efforts with thorough documentation within schedule and cost constraints to create error free, readily manufactured system and component specifications and drawings.
  • Participate in and lead system level and component level validation analysis and testing, including: plan creation; consultation regarding iron bird, system and component test rigs; test monitoring; analysis and test report authoring; supplier test report review and approval; test failure analysis; and test failure mitigation.
  • Participate in and lead system, component and detail certification efforts, including: creation of required certification artifacts, such as, system safety analysis, failure modes and effects analysis, and fault tree analysis; confirming and demonstrating traceability to regulatory requirements; and resolution of regulation conflicts.
  • Support initial production efforts including: timely resolution of prototype and first build problems at Boeing and supplier manufacturing facilities; ensuring readiness for production start-up milestones, such as, power-on, system gauntlet, system functional test, ground test and first flight; analysis and resolution of rejections and ground/flight test squawks; and ground/flight test data review for design validation and certification compliance.
  • Support on-going production efforts including: timely resolution of build problems at Boeing and supplier manufacturing facilities; identifying and implementing design improvements to build accuracy, build rate, and production line safety; and timely resolution of rejections, functional test failures and flight squawks.
  • Support global fleet operations including: subject matter expert consultation for airline and regulator queries; participate in and lead resolution efforts to resolve Service Related Problems (SRP); and analyze reported flight incidents to provide recommendations to the Safety Review Board (SRB) for Continued Operational Safety Program (COSP) determinations.
  • Generally, these activities require successful cross-functional coordination within and outside of Boeing including with: manufacturing, avionics, crew-ops, airplane safety, aerodynamics, supply chain management, BCA systems software, suppliers, airline customers, and regulatory agencies.
  • Gathers, defines and documents system level requirements to support flight control and mission or trajectory requirements definition.
  • Resolves requirement conflicts. Performs and documents analysis and design of Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GNC) systems to validate or assess the system design or models.
  • Develops solutions and disposition of issues to assure customer satisfaction.
  • Designs trade studies to meet program requirements. Works under general direction.


This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a "US Person" as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. "US Person" includes , lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Electrical, Mechanical, or Aerospace Engineering
  • 3+ years of technical experience in an aerospace or similar regulated industry environment


Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
  • Experience in complex safety critical system design using: object based three dimensional CAD tools, such as, CATIA; dynamic system simulation tools, such as, Easy5; and traditional engineering analytical methods
  • Experience in requirements development, design, analysis, and verification & validation of flight control systems
  • Experience using requirement management tools such as IBM Rational DOORS
  • Experience with System Safety Analysis including: failure modes and effects analysis; fault tree analysis; common cause analysis, and single & multiple failure analysis
  • Experience with control system and component troubleshooting
  • Experience with manufacturing regulated and certified, safety critical components and software
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to learn fast and effectively apply prior experience and knowledge to new and different challenges


Typical Education/Experience:

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD, Master+3 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
