The Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) team is seeking an Experienced In-Space Vehicle Mechanical Design Engineer located in Tukwila, WA. The selected candidate will be part of a high-performing team that are immersed in high intensity development projects. As a member of our team, you will have the opportunity to contribute to the development of our innovative technology in an agile environment. As an Engineer you will collaborate with teammates, design, implement and test, which support our Space and Launch operations. Travel to other sites within the Puget Sound area may be required.

Position Responsibilities Include:

  • Supports the development and documentation of mechanical, electrical, and thermal environment requirements to establish the system design.
  • Supports the development, maintenance or modification of system, component and installation designs/proposals to provide design documentation to downstream groups.
  • Performs and documents analyses to validate and verify systems and components meet requirements and specifications.
  • Contributes to supplier development, test and production activities and directs the supplier to optimize integration and achieve program goals.
  • Supports system components' designs/proposals standards to provide installation and detail documentation.


This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at the listed location.

This position requires an active Top Secret/SCI U.S. Security Clearance. (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active.)

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
  • Bachelor's, Master's or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry
  • 3+ years of experience on space, launch vehicle, or satellite programs.


Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
  • 3+ years of experience with mechanisms for space and/or airborne applications.
  • 3+ years of experience designing tooling using CAD/CAM software, preferably CATIA.
  • Experience with working in classified environments.


Typical Education/Experience:

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD, Master+3 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard
