The Space and Launch division of Boeing Defense Space & Security is seeking a highly motivated Lead Systems Integration Engineer to join the team in Tukwila, WA to lead the system hardware and software integration & validation environments for multiple programs.

The position requires the ability to plan and integrate hardware and software deliverables from multiple external and internal suppliers, including the definition of validation environments for multiple levels of integration. The position also involves facility & asset requirements development across multiple sites and integrated product teams (IPTs). It includes the development of a master test & integration plan to ensure there is a robust process to validate requirements at the correct level of integration prior to the assembly & test of the spacecraft vehicle. It involves working closely with the program Hardware/Software integration leader to ensure proper program execution. Finally it will involve interaction with counterparts across the program and from multiple government agencies who represent the customer program office, subcontractors, user groups, including government oversight contractors.

The position requires domain knowledge in space systems and multilayered integration & validation of hardware & software. Other key capabilities include clear and concise, written and oral communication of complex subjects to Boeing leadership and at all levels of customer engagement.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Develop hardware and software integration requirements
  • Define hardware and software lab validation environment
  • Lead the development of system validation environment including a simulation environment
  • Accountability includes customer satisfaction, mission success, program execution and performance against company financial objectives
  • Negotiating and working with numerous small and large subcontractors
  • Analyze, verify, and validate performance of hardware and software components in a space system
  • Develop requirements verification plan, including coordination of required tests for space systems
  • Develop and maintain requirements for innovative new projects
  • Develop use cases, sequence diagrams, and/or concepts of operations
  • Develop and maintain Interface Control Documents (ICDs) for complex space and ground architectures
  • Planning for and execution of subsystem and vehicle-level integration and test campaign


This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at the listed location.

This position requires the ability to obtain a US Security Clearance for which the US Government requires US Citizenship as a condition of employment. An interim and/or final U.S. Top Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.

Special Program Access or other Government Access Requirements are mandatory for this position.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
  • Bachelor's, Master's or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry
  • 3+ years of experience leading technical teams
  • 3+ years of experience with systems integration / validation


Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
  • A current Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI)
  • Experience with system integration (hardware, firmware, software)
  • Experience in Satellite or Space Programs
  • Experience interfacing with suppliers
  • Experience in the implementation of Agile software development
  • Experience with leadership role in system level test design and execution
  • Experience interfacing with senior and executive leadership


Typical Education/Experience:

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+4 years' related work experience, Master+7 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
