Required Education and Experience

Must be 18 years of age or older

Must have 1,000 total flagging hours to date

Successful completion of drug test

Successful completion of background screen

Successfully complete sign setter class

Maintain a clean driving record according to company policy

Successfully complete Flagger 101 class

Qualifications

Techniques in traffic control.

Ability to stay alert and focused at all times while flagging.

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules and traffic control plans.

Understanding of OSHA safety rules and regulations, and safety standards in hazardous traffic environments.

Follow federal and state safety laws and regulations.

Ability to interface with and provide excellent customer service.

Demonstrate safe and efficient operation and maintenance of motor vehicles.

Follow safe work practices.

Establish and maintaining effective working relationships with co-workers and customers.

Follow verbal and written instructions.

Summary/Objective

The Sign Setter is responsible for installing and maintaining traffic control signs and markings. Under minimal supervision, performs traffic control duties in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures.

Essential Functions

This position is responsible for performing dispatch and operations support activities, including the following responsibilities:

Set up work zone using the appropriate safety standards.

Breaking down and cleaning up the work zone upon completion of the flagging operation.

Provides breaks and meal periods to Traffic Control Flaggers as required by law.

Directs and moves traffic through site, using stop & slow paddles, and hand signals.

Radios other flagger at opposite end of site, giving clearance for reverse flow of traffic when appropriate.

Informs drivers of detour routes through construction sites.

Performs traffic control and flagging activities as needed; follows safety rules and regulations on all work zone and flagging sites, including placing signs, barricades, traffic cones and other warning devices; duties may vary according to job assignment.

Warns construction workers when approaching vehicle fails to heed signals to prevent accident and injury to workers. Records license number of traffic control violators for police.

Communicates with Field Safety Coach on any discrepancies or issues with the job.

Other duties may be assigned.

Travel

Travel is required for this position.

License and Certification

Must possess a Valid Flagger's Card from Oregon, Washington, Montana or Idaho.

Possess a valid driver's license in state of residence.

Must have a clean driving record.
