Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) Structures & Production Engineering Capability is seeking an experienced Product Review Engineer (Liaison Engineering) to join the team located in Tukwila, WA. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of applying advanced knowledge of Engineering principles to develop innovative solutions to complex problems. Experience anticipating needs before they become a problem and implementing appropriate improvement measures. Additionally, the candidate will have demonstrated capability establishing and maintaining strong working relationships with internal and external customers, as well as proven leadership, strong interpersonal and communication skills (verbal, written, and presentation).

Position Responsibilities:

  • Provide on-site engineering support. This includes, but not limited to leading development of technical solutions, development of engineering data, and acting as a principle point of contact for internal and external customers.
  • Create, coordinate, and issue manufacturing plans for shop consumption, and oversee plan optimization. Foresee and prevent potential conflicts and risks associated with successful completion of work tasks / jobs.
  • Identify and release documentation for any long-lead material and tooling definitions to support efficient project execution of the work statement.
  • Provide steadfast technical support around diagnosing and resolving issues encountered in various operations, on-time with high quality. Engage hands-on engineering talents by working closely on technically advanced products.
  • Review defect and damage conditions; establish root cause and provide acceptable disposition instructions that are innovative, thorough and practical. Support root cause containment and corrective action (RCCCA) investigations, including proposing corrective / preventative actions and evaluating the results to ensure implemented solutions are effective.
  • Review, develop, and implement new or revised processes / procedures using lean and six sigma principles.
  • Manage critical, emergent statements of work, as well as helping to build and implement recovery plans.
  • Assist coordination for building statements of work, estimates, resource plans, and schedules. Document work status, issues, concerns, and opportunities; and effectively communicate perspective to stakeholders.
  • Execute static strength analysis. Develop conclusions and recommendations from appropriate data sources; incorporate good analysis practices into sizing of structural elements (account for fatigue and damage tolerance, inspectability and appropriate stress or strain limits to address durability). Develop substantiation packages for structural repairs.
  • Represent workgroup in technical and nontechnical reviews as required.
  • Participate in status meetings and technical reviews, support daily and monthly status report development and submittals.
  • Drive efficiency in the design maturity process by steadfast collaboration with design, manufacturing, and stress counterparts. Support trade studies, design improvements, and optimization efforts.
  • Coordinate standards and NDI / NDE [nondestructive inspection (NDI) and non-destructive evaluation (NDE)] probes acquisition. Assist with shipping and receiving test parts.
  • Ensure supplier or build partner compliance with Boeing standards.
  • Willing to work overtime, be on call and available for second shift, weekends and/or holidays, when required.
  • Approximately 10% travel based on business need.


This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S Security Clearance for which the US Government requires US Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Secret clearance Post Start is required.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills & Experience):
  • Bachelor's, Master's or Doctorate of Science degree from an ABET accredited course of study in engineering and ABET accredited college / university.(A degree in Aerospace, Aeronautical, Astronautical/Space, Civil, Industrial, Manufacturing, Mechanical, and/or Structural Engineering).
  • 3+ years of experience in a Production and/or Structures Engineering role.
  • 3+ years of Material Review Board / Liaison Engineering (MRB / LE) Authority experience, including participating in Material Review Board and Integrated Product Team activities related to aircraft structures.
  • 3+ years of experience with applying knowledge of design principles to assess and resolve product / process issues through the product lifecycle.
  • 3+ years of experience with analyzing and conducting root cause analysis, in addition to developing dispositions for design non-conformances.
  • 3+ years of experience with military or commercial derivative aircraft: design, analysis, manufacturing, procurements, assembly, integration, test, delivery and fleet support.
  • 3+ years of experience working in a cross-functional environment and/or business unit teams.
  • 3+ years of customer interface experience.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Currently have or have held an active U.S. Security Clearance in the past 24 months.
  • Universal Product Review and Commercial Product Review certification.
  • Experience with Product Data Management (PDM), Model Based Engineering (MBE), CATIA, ENOVIA, Configuration Management Professional (CMPRO), GOLD Enterprise Service Platform (GOLDesp), and Common Assignment, Substantiation, Technical Log and Evaluation (CASTLE) database.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, leadership, and problem solving abilities.
  • Demonstrated ability establishing and maintaining good working relationships by helping people feel valued, appreciated, and included in discussions. Place high priority on team and/or organization goals.
  • Experience interfacing with all Operations and Engineering disciplines, as well as being able to work in a team environment or to work independently. Work effectively and cooperatively with direct team members, management, and other cross-departmental teams.
  • Experience supporting quality management system (QMS), knowledge of Boeing Production System (BPS) and Lean Manufacturing processes.
  • Experience ensuring Boeing meets its contractual deliveries for Contract Data Requirements List (CDRL) items.
  • Experience in a role that required organizational skills with the ability to plan, prioritize, facilitate, and coordinate multiple projects.
  • Familiar with the requirements for the use, control, and retention of Test and Inspection Record (TAIR) Books.
  • Proficient in interpreting and using engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Experience in Excel (e.g., formulas, pivot tables, linking worksheets, etc.).
  • Experience with structural repairs in the field and in a manufacturing, production environment. Familiar with common manufacturing defects that influence material performance.
  • Demonstrated ability to be proactive, self-motivated, flexible and creative.
  • Proficient in recognizing and balance conflicting priorities.
  • Experience developing balanced free-body diagram (FBD). Solid understanding of static strength analysis, durability analysis, and damage tolerance analysis. Able to demonstrate correlation of test data to analysis method.
  • Proficient in exercising technical leadership and teamwork abilities designing engineering solutions to complex and urgent problems.
  • Understands basic test capabilities, test measuring, data capture and inspection techniques, and the importance of fixture design.
  • Demonstrated awareness of NDI / NDE [nondestructive inspection (NDI) and non-destructive evaluation (NDE)] methods; understands the requirements for testing different types of materials, such as composites and metals, and understands the various aspects of damage growth and residual strength, failure, etc.
  • Demonstrated ability to clearly communicate complex technical ideas and concepts to technical and non-technical people.
  • Experience working execution to safety, quality, delivery and cost commitments.
  • Proficient in analyzing data, identifying opportunities and making recommendations for value stream improvements.
  • Experience developing presentations and presenting to multiple levels of an organization.
  • Systems thinker capable of making engineering proposals based on data analysis and forecasting wide reaching and longer term impacts.


Typical Education/Experience:

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD, Master+3 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
