We have an immediate need for a Practice Development Specialist (Nurse Educator)/ Infection Control Nurse to serve as a clinical educational and infection control expert to several Genesis HealthCare skilled nursing centers in the Moses Lake area supporting our Columbia Crest and Lake Ridge Centers.

SummaryÂFunctions as an expert practitioner, consultant, educator and facilitator for all nursing practice development and education at multiple locations focusing on assuring the highest quality of care and clinical outcomes. Serves as the facilities' Infection Prevention and Control Officer and functions as a practitioner, resource, consultant, educator and facilitator for all staff in multiple locations through the following Center-specific approaches:

Nursing Orientation,

Nursing Knowledge Proficiency,

Nursing Practice and Competencies Development, Evaluation and Maintenance,

Infection Prevention & Control Activities at the center level

Outcome & Process surveillance

Outbreak Management

Employee Health

Key to this role is the identification of staff learning needs based on direct observation and assessment, monitoring of Center clinical outcomes, and nursing career ladder/career development goals. The PDS implements programs and evaluates learner responses and Center outcomes.

Orientation:

Prepares and assigns mentors for new nursing staff to support individualized orientation period.

Provides oversight of the nursing orientation and mentoring program for all licensed staff.

Develops, implements and evaluates learner-specific bedside coaching and assessment to determine learner mastery and application of orientation content.

Supports Welcoming program/ general orientation by providing infection control training for all newly hired employees.

Reviews the immunization documentation/status for all new hires with the center to ensure compliance upon hire

Ensures necessary TB screening and documentation is completed per regulatory requirements

Ensures Hepatitis B vaccination is offered, and initiated or declination signed, for new hires, within regulatory requirements

Develops education programs in response to identified infection control needs identified through QAPI, rounding, center quality measures, or any other meansÂ

Teaches staff current accepted patient care and center practices as they relate to infection control

Performs rounds on units to:

Review & monitor infection control issues

Monitor/observe infection control practices to identify educational needs

Identify environmental issues that could contribute to the spread of infectious diseases and discuss findings

Evaluate compliance with Standard and Transmission based Precautions & provide education regarding appropriate usage when needed

Nurse Education:

Develops education programs in response to assessments of staff needs and teaches staff current, evidence-based patient care and center practices;

Performs rounds on units to:

Review clinical issues and monitor/observe to identify care delivery/clinical skills educational needs;

Assist nurses in identifying change in resident condition and implementing appropriate follow through;

Identify clinical educational needs of nursing staff;

Provide education through demonstration and return demonstration for specific skills/procedures.

Utilizes Learning Management System to schedule, record and track education;

Supports implementation of nursing policies and procedures;

Oversees and coordinates the implementation and education for all nursing programs and facilitates the connection with appropriate Area and Corporate nursing resources (e.g., Wound Specialists, etc.)

Coordinates delivery of programs with PDS colleagues;Â

Develops an annual education calendar to include Company and State/Federal mandatory in-services within the Learning Management System;

Infection Control and Employee Health:

Provides oversight of the Centers' Infection Control and Prevention Program and activities with the goals of the program being the following:

Preventing the spread of infections for both residents/patients and staff

Identifying, reporting, investigating, controlling, and minimizing the risk of infection-related outbreaks within the center

Completes surveillance and tracking;

Maintains infection control records per policy and regulatory requirements

Analyzes & identifies and presents center trends/variances and develops plans in conjunction with the center QAPI process

Completes the Infection Control Risk Assessment of the Center's resident population and facility.

Integrates the Infection Control and Prevention program with the facility's QAPI processes.Â

Oversees the facility antimicrobial stewardship program that includes antibiotic use & prescribing protocols, laboratory communication, and a system for monitoring antimicrobial use.

Directs implementation of Infection Control and Prevention policies and procedures and periodically reviews and updates the program as needed;

Provides oversight to Employee Health Program to include:

Tracking of TST administration and interpretation and/or IGRA blood tests for Tuberculosis screening and Hepatitis B vaccine series administration and regulatory documentation for all employees;

Training/ Competency testing of all licensed nurses upon hire and annually, who administer and record, in mm of induration, the results, of Tuberculin skin tests

Oversight of Universal Influenza program & tracking of influenza immunizations for all employees;

Reviews "Initial Health Survey" completed by all new employees and requests appropriate documentation.

Serves as an ad hoc member and resource for the facility Infection Control and Prevention Committee/QAPIÂ

Puts Customer Service First: Ensures that customers and families receive the highest quality of service in a caring and compassionate atmosphere which recognizes the individuals' needs and rights;

Competency Evaluation and Maintenance:

Assists in evaluation of performance of new nursing personnel;

Performs annual competency testing and evaluation;

Clinically appraises nursing staff performance to identify areas for education;

Performs other duties as requested.

Compliance

Complies with applicable legal requirements, standards, policies and procedures including but not limited to those within the Compliance and Ethics Program, Standard/Code of Conduct, Federal False Claims Act and HIPAA.

Participates in required orientation and training programs.

Promptly reports concerns and suspected incidences of non-compliance to supervisor, Compliance Liaison or to the Compliance Officer via the Integrity Hotline.

Cooperates with monitoring and audit functions and investigations.

Participates, as requested, in quality assurance and process improvement activities

QualificationsÂ

The Practice Development Specialist must be a graduate of an accredited School of Nursing with current registered nurse (RN) licensure by the State Board of Nursing.

Master's Degree Preferred. Bachelor's Degree RN Required RN

A minimum of three years full-time or equivalent nursing experience is required and a minimum of two years of nursing experience in long-term care nursing with one year in a management/administrative or supervisory capacity is preferred.

Previous experience teaching adults is required.

Must be able to work flexible hours in order to meet with employees working evening and night shifts.

Must be able to travel to the assigned buildings with infrequent overnight travel for regional or other meetings.

Must be a graduate of an accredited School of Nursing with current registered nurse licensure by the State Board of Nursing.

Infection Control and Prevention certification is strongly preferred. Specialty certification is to be obtained within the first 2 years of employment in this role.

Previous experience in infection control is preferred.
